Can stolen XRP be recovered?

I'm trying to decide whether to store my XRP in Poloniex or RippleTrade.  I would rather keep it in Poloniex but I can imagine it's completely safe in RippleTrade since it's run by Ripple Labs.  I'm not clear on how XRP works but I know it's centralized to some degree.  Does that mean I'd be able to recover my XRP if it were stolen from Poloniex?

Keep them in Ripple Trade and keep your secret key in a safe place.  Ripple Labs cannot have access or control your wallet.

if i were you i would keep it on rippletrade if you want more security because you won't know when will an exchange will be hacked

I just tried that but it seemed to require my username as well.  Are you sure the username isn't required in order to recover?

I don't think you'll be able to get your old username back.  You have to make a new one, if I remember correctly...
