Warning..: N00b.   Shocked

Hi Guys

Totally new to this mining gig, and jumped in the deep end and bought a Bitmain Antminer S5.

It arrived on Monday, so I hooked it up when I got home. Changed the password... (new password had a space in it)... oops, couldn't get back in. So reset, and changed the password to something else, and away we went.

Originally set it up to mine on Nicehash, but wasn't impressed with the results. Thought ok, maybe the pool.
So I switched to mine bitcoin.cz and let it rip.

So my stats as of this morning are;

Frequency: 350/350
Temp: 41/37
ASIC Status: All o's.
Latest firmware.

Primary pool (stratum+tcp://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333):
Accepted: 0
Discarded: 100,359
Stale: 16,706

Secondary pool (stratum+tcp://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333):
Accepted: 4,328
Discarded: 105,465
Stale: 133

Needless to say my mining stats are miserable.

Looking at the bitcoin.cz worker graph, it's as if it does something, then goes to sleep for an hour or so before doing anything again.. (spike, flatline.... spike, flatline.... spike.... etc).

Any ideas?

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Nicehash really takes a special firmware to get good speed on.  Some units do ok others don't.

Try your S5 on the Bitmain Antpool and see how it does.   It should be pretty easy and work fine.

Yeah, that was my next step.. but the hardware shouldn't be that finicky that it can only talk to one pool, so don't see why slush is bombing. Was wondering if one of the control boards was crapped (not the hashing boards).

I would not consider it finicky as far as nicehash if you read over here - https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=software#asic it's nicehash that is not playing well since it really needs  extranonoce.subscribe patch to work right.

Other pool I can't say much as I have not used it.   But having same pool in primary and secondary with exact same thing is odd.   Try it in one position and not two and see what it does.

Why did you set primary & secondary pool on same pool?
Secondary is backup pool in case main pool down. If main pool is slush pool, the secondary should be other pool like antpool, btcguild or eligius etc

I originally had it set to one of the bitcoin.cz regional servers, but it kept reporting dead, so ended up just copying the main one.

Meanwhile I gave up on slushpool, and had a go at Antpool.

Also lowered frequency to 325, just to see if it'd make any difference.

Over 1 7 1/2 hour stint;

Discarded: 15,344
Stale: 4,572
Rejected: 0
Accepted: 0

As well as having a secondary set to Ghash;

Discarded: 35,995
Stale: 207
Rejected: 3
Accepted: 1,064

And it's now reporting 1 "x" on chain 2.

Seems like it's sh1tful performance no matter which pool I try.

Indeed, please post screen shot of pool setting page, miner setting page & miner status page.

Thanks guys, Will do tonight when I get home.. it'll have another 8 hours on the clock to get a better stats view by then too.

Sidebar; This is the power supply i'm using. (Coz someone will ask)

http://www.aerocool.com.tw/index.php/power-supply/templarius/47-power-supply/templarius10/426-imperator-750w-spec
80+ SILVER Certified for a High-Efficiency up to 88%.

So conservatively 80% of 750w = 600w
According to my wall watt measuring thing, i'm currently drawing 574w.
