It's a decent way to promote Bitcoin, the problem is when you give Bitcoin to idiots the most inmediate response will be dumping those Bitcoins for some dollars to spend in something stupid, so unneducated Bitcoin owners means Bitcoin dumpers.

yeah, this is exactly what came to my mind when i saw this post. i think it has a double effect, it can be good as long as it involves more people with bitcoin and expands the popularity. but it is not good at all if they just get the coins and immediately exchange it to fiat and be done with bitcoin.

IBM Bitcoin Rain BM Cloud rained money at Campus Party, the biggest geek event in the world. Participants downloaded a weather app and kept an eye on the forecast. At a given time it warned them that a different rain was approaching. A bitcoin rain. People then had to go to the right place in the event, at the right time and raise their cellphones to capture the money. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fed7NANkJE&feature=youtu.be That was actually very cool I wish I was there. Are hey going to do more of these events?

I dont think they will do this event in nearly because they are giving $50,000 for free to that event, its like a donation, but may be in a few months or year hope they will have this kind of event again. So next time if they want to make this kind of event they must make it outside so other people will have a chance to get it too and make this thing fair

I'm just going to drop an idea here and see if anyone thinks it's worth picking up...
Similar application EXCEPT it is used for concerts. IF your cell phone is in your pocket, and NOT recording... then 'when it rains' you are alerted that a concert camera will be focusing in on your location and you might want to wave and smile. After the concert their 'rain check' will allow you to download a professionally edited view of the camera focusing in on the band, you in the stadium and then back to the band on stage again.
The goal of this application would be to keep all those cell phones in peoples pockets during the concert and then to deliver a customized video clip to the person who got 'rained on'.

So it was raining Bitcoin I never considered that application use it as a social media application and as a way to read the weather that seems more fun that just having a normal weather tracker you get fun rain events as well. Kudos to IBM for trying something new and making it fun.

Does anyone know how much Bitcoin each participant recieved?
50k is a lot of money. If there was 1k people then there would be $50 for everyone. Did anyone on the forums attend the event?

If this were back in 2013 people would be going nuts. Also shows that IBM are interested in both the technology and the currency.

we should have events like that everyday, more concretely at my country and near my house what caught my attention is that IBM promote himselft with BTC, because in the end this is exactly his purpose, i think.

Why? What's the problem with taking out your cellphone during a concert? Why do you want to keep people from using it?

It's annoying as fuck to have to look to a gazillion of hands holding bright screens that are obscuring your view from the main act. Moreover, the quality of the recordings is so utterly shit, that they might as well not film it.

Would be fun, if they could flash a Bip38 paper wallet {Bitcoin Address & Private Key pair} on a big screen and the first person to SMS the correct answer to a question, will be electronically given the pass phrase to sweep the content. We live in a electronic age, where things like this is possible. Why not do it?

Why? What's the problem with taking out your cellphone during a concert? Why do you want to keep people from using it? It's not the talking on the cellphone, it's the people holding up a cheap cell phone camera and actually trying to record the concert all at the same time. They basically end up with barely viewable recordings and they are not even in the video. When i was a kid, we only held up lighters at the end of a concert but nowadays they hold up cell phones for the entire length of the concert. Edit: @ NorrisK, yes, that's what i was trying to say. http://images1.houstonpress.com/imager/u/original/6778489/1392021625_463b69ecf7.jpg

i hope far less than that, because you can tell from their faces, that they are there for the quick buck, their btc will mostly likely be dumped It's a decent way to promote Bitcoin, the problem is when you give Bitcoin to idiots the most inmediate response will be dumping those Bitcoins for some dollars to spend in something stupid, so unneducated Bitcoin owners means Bitcoin dumpers.

Wow, this looks like it could have been very fun to participate in! I wish i could have participated. But that is great for IBM to do that. I hope other companies see this and do something similar. I think it shows off bitcoins potential in a great way.
