I just wonder what the Killer App for Bitcoin would be, and if you think Streamium.io could be THE App that push Bitcoin mainstream?

It has the potential to be big, but it's still in beta and full of bugs.

It also has the potential to be used for major exploitation and this is something that would bring bad press for Bitcoin.

Do you think a monetized, decentralized service for video streaming, would be a good or a bad thing for Bitcoin?

We have already seen amateur voyeurism being done on this service and it could be used for more explicit or illegal porn streaming.

Let's discuss.  Huh

I followed the discussions on reddit about streamium. And many people had some great ideas how this could be a really awsome application in the future if we reach mass adoption.Right now it is way too early I believe.

Maybe I am misunderstanding how it works, but it sounds like a pay-per-view for the internet with bitcoin. I can't image that it would be very successful when there are many free options to stream videos online.

Streamium looks very interesting to me. If it gains momentum it will be an unstoppable force.

This is different :

1. It's decentralized
2. It's immutable
3. It's a trust less system between two or more parties
4. It allows for micro payments.

This is actually the next step in video streaming... and it's going to kick dirt in the face of Periscope and Meerkat.  Cheesy

How will something like this be regulated? {Not that I am very much in favor of regulation, but I would want someone to protect the exploitation of people}

i don't think there will be a killer app that will make bitcoin go mainstream. it's the combination of everything together that will make bitcoin go mainstream. regarding op : i think it will get bought by a large tech company as the potential is high.

Check out http://www.reddit.com/r/Streamiumlive/

Yea, I found it fascinating that there are the potential for people to make tons of money, within a couple of hours, using a service like this.
Edit : Legal ways ... Streaming a kids concert at school for charity for example.

BUT

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3740nm/streamium_test_f22/
In this example a boyfriend challenged his 22 year old girlfriend to stream a video online, where she was cleaning her room, dressed in lingerie.

She got 249 viewers at $15/h {If everyone watch it for 1 hour, she would have made a staggering $3735 per hour!!!

Unfortunately it froze and she lost all income, when they refreshed the feed. {I am curious to know, what a successful attempt would cause}

It's still in beta... but it's got great potential for the early birds. {People would pay more for limited feeds}

Just imagine, if more viewers per second could be added ... I think the bandwidth will be the limiting factor or the cost for the streaming via the mobile.

This would not be wise at all. Video streaming is good, but using it for this type of shit is just going to be bad for bitcoin. There is a reason that shit is illegal and a good one..

Millions of internet users have grown up expecting to pay precisely zero for all the content they consume online.

Unless it's something quite insanely compelling, maybe a conversation with an alien, most people are not going to be putting their hands in their pocket and it would leak to a free source very quickly anyway.

I disagree, There are people willing to pay for immediate gratification. {Eg : A big boxing match streamed via a mobile phone, where the pay-per-view would be too expensive for some people .... Or a paparazzi getting a scoop on something NEW and broadcasting it to the world, before others get to it... etc etc}

Some people are simply bored and like to watch people do exiting stuff ...{Reality TV}

Time will tell, but I thinks this is THE ONE.  Shocked

If you need someone to 'protect consumers' then you're advocating regulation.  Can't have it both ways.

We shall see but I think the boat to monetise most internet content sailed a long, long time ago. It's an inconceivable idea to an awful lot of people. Even if it's forced, there'll be endless attempts to subvert it.

Just tested stremium on their testnet. The audio-quality is like 96 kbps. No really good for streaming audio. I didn't test video, but I think it's slow and not usable for stuff like "instrument lessons". If the quality of the stream will be better, this might be a great thing.

I also had problems with connected to a test-stream I created. The problem was, that NoScript blocked some sites you need to watch / hear the stream. The problem was, that I paid for a session (20 minutes) and after the payment was received by Stremium and I landed on the stream-page, I had to allow some sites / scripts and after that, the site reloads and I wasn't on the streaming-site anymore, so I had to pay again. I don't know, if the payment from the first time was paid back, but that's a big problem at this moment.

I was wondering how the audio turned out. I had a feeling you would be doing "instrument lessons" which would be very cool. The thing with Streamium is its def. in Beta mode.  Did you get your payment back from the first payment ?

I didn't think it had audio yet so that's a plus in my book

Pretty sure this will be a big one. Can't wait to see a lot of hot girls using this instead of the annoying cam sites which have been known to betray them privacy wise as well as the people that paid. So yeah there is an huge market for this.
