I loved AOE, especially the Kings/Conquerors part. I loved the epic intro music.

Liked the AOE 1 too, but couldn't get into AOE 3. Guns and all those didn't do it for me. The limited guns in that Spanish campaign in Conquerors was fine but too much took away most of the charm of AOE. I take AoM as successor to AOE 2.

In the original game, you could upgrade all the way to future ages.  In AOE 2/3 you could only upgrade a bit.

I loved that game, wasted many hours playing it. My friend would get the male workers to do all the hunting and deforestation, while the women worked the mines.

I loved AOE, especially the Kings/Conquerors part.

Same here, I didn't play any of the campaigns. I preferred multiplayer, even if was only against computer players.

In the original game, you could upgrade all the way to future ages.  In AOE 2/3 you could only upgrade a bit.

EE was awesome as well. In EE2 you could advance tech beyond the digital age, although I preferred to end the tech tree advancement at the atomic age (WWII). I loved doing bomber runs and dropping A-bombs on the enemy.

I played EE too, and it was even more of a time sink if you can believe it possible. The fun part was developing them from cavemen to anti-aircraft guns.

I need some way to run these games on Windows 8. Have to do some searches and also find the CD.

The game was rather something. Back in the day there were fewer games but they were much better than the usual crap that gets released these days.
It's rather unfortunate that they haven't made AOE IV yet. I mean they could rebuild the game from scratch (using new engines), some sort of reboot which would incorporate features from each released game.

Another game worth mentioning would be Age of Mythology (since it was also released by Microsoft and discontinued).

Yup still play it here and there. I liked AOE3 the best but my roots are stem from 1 and 2 an of course all of the expansions.

I am a big fan of AOE 2 and The Conquerors edition. Enjoyed Online Playing in Game Ranger. IMO if there is a next addition they should add some more options of play rather than just the campaigns/short matches.

Age of Empires is a wonderful game, strategic and multi-aspects with great graphics, I mainly played the Multiplayer maps and not the usual campaign but it was still a great game.

Now we're talking , would prefer one of the soldier/hero spawning games or tower defense or something like that. Not super good in the original campaign mode .

Love age of empires 2 couldnt get on with 3 still playing number 2 to this day
