http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2015/05/before-sentencing-ulbricht-begs-for-leniency-please-leave-me-my-old-age/bitcoin Founder and kingpin Ross Ulbricht, who at one point amassed as many as 150,000 bitcoin, begs for his life before a judge, his once proud bitcoin fueled arrogance reduced to pathetic groveling "I’ve had my youth, and I know you must take away my middle years, but please leave me my old age." the broken shell of a man cries to the judge. Haha, oh Ross, you should know it makes no functional difference how long your sentence is for your various bitcrimes. One year, ten years, one-hundred, you will die in prison no matter what you do, forgotten by all save for your fellow jailed bitcrimers. Your daily routine will consist of rapings by various gangs, none of which have any concern for bitcoin, being used as drug mule by various gangs, none of which use bitcoin as a medium of exchange, and being stabbed by various gangs, none of which will except bitcoin as protection money. If you are lucky, and shut up about fradulent bitcoin for long enough, an enlightened gang member may adopt you as his wife, or a guard may throw you in solitary to go insane after you cry enough. Needless to say, one bitcoin or one million will not help you in the least. Let this be a lesson for all bitcoiners deceived by the scammers and fraudsters, despite what you hear, bitcoin's only novel purpose is an illegal black market exchange, used to fund drug dealing, murder for hires, and of course, every bitcoiner's favorite, ISIS support and child pornography. Get out of bitcoin while you still can, it's not to late to escape a life of crime and punishment. If you don't, you will be left to die alone and forgotten like bitcoin kingpin Ross Ulbricht. Cheers!

bitcoin Founder Wat? No. Haha, oh Ross, you should know it makes no functional difference how long your sentence is for your various bitcrimes. One year, ten years, one-hundred, you will die in prison no matter what you do So if he gets on year or ten he will die in prison? Don't see the logic. He wont be thrown in a prison full of rapists and ganBangers though either.

And i would suggest fiat has been used for all of the above and much much worse. What do you suggest, we ban that too, and go back to a barter system?

The article doesn't say anything about banning bitcoin. I believe if the same case was involved with fiat, then the punishment would still be the same . If he is found guilty for the majority of 7 counts , then he is definitely going in for a long time.

I didn't say the article did mention banning bitcoin, it was a remark at the op's obvious disdain for bitcoin.

No idea why is the op still wasting his time here then, when he should be out there enjoying the beach. Seems all his post history has been hate towards bitcoin.

The OP is a vile sadist. I don't care what anybody thinks of bitcoin or the man, cheering rape is disgusting. This would probably be acknowledged if it happened to a woman but for some reason it can be funny and a cause for celebration if it is a man.
The OP sees human suffering at its gravest and laughs. He is a moral blank, the very thing he accuses bitcoin of being.

I'm becoming convinced that these are people who are deliberately trying to discredit Bitcoin with any means possible because they always pick up these kind of negative articles within hours or even seconds and post them up here, which means they're pretty sad individuals that are keeping a close eye on even the most obscure news sources to try and piss people off. They always post with new accounts and they're always incredibly well timed.

Well aren't you the experienced one with what it's like on the inside. It's foolish to believe just because you got treated like this, everyone else will too.

I stopped reading after the "Bitcoin Founder" part If Ross Ulbricht made Bitcoin as you say , you realize that he don't need to create the Silk Road to make money .. because Satoshi Nakamoto already have one million BTC so that's enough to live like .. forever .

The OPs comments are just misunderstanding bitcoin. But the part that matters is this: Ulbricht was convicted of seven charges including three drug counts: distributing or aiding and abetting the distribution of narcotics, distributing narcotics or aiding and abetting distribution over the Internet, and conspiracy to violate narcotics laws. He was also convicted on a fourth count of conspiracy to run a "continuing criminal enterprise," which involves supervising at least five other people in an organization. In addition, Ulbricht was convicted on conspiracy charges for computer hacking, distributing false identification, and money laundering. This had nothing to do with bitcoin. He was running a drug house. However, I think the mandatory min. of 20 years is a travesty.
