I think adoption will be highly regional.  I live in the bay area and a few businesses here and there are already starting to accept it.  However when I visit my relatives in the south no one has even heard of it, and the businesses are not accepting it anywhere that I know of.

That should be expected. Adoption wouldn't be simultaneous as others wanted. People shouldn't expect an instant adoption; it will grow gradually but in a slow phase. Well, there are still places in the world wherein no one has a definite idea or even the slightest knowledge about bitcoin, so we'll probably wait for a long time before people hop in the bitcoin train.

Ha!  Seriously?  That's all we need, corporate backed alt coins.  On the plus side it is promoting digital currency.

Personally I think that it will be 3-5 years until we see wider adoption.  One prerequisite is price stability.  I could see cryptos becoming popular with the kids, it might be the fad that replaces fake eye glasses.
