my guess is that Bitcoin will be worth a lot at that point, when it becomes used that much.
But, if you had to pin it on a Slurpee, how much time would you give it?

my guess is 4-6 years.

I have a tow service and we now accept Bitcoin.

It all depends on adoption. Seems that the adoption is increasing amongst individual business owners but its still slow for large business owners specially those in-store businesses, that probably do not see the benefit of adding bitcoin as a payment option. It would be hard to put a time line of when it might happen, but once a couple of big store chains like Walmart and Mcdonalds start accepting it, it will spread like a domino effect.

I completely agree with you, especially the domino effect.

One of the European card swiping machines (Indego?) had the software capability added that allows for paying with Bitcoin. Apparently the retailer just has to add that functionality (like downloading an app).

I can easily see a future where card swiping technology just includes Bitcoin payment software as a default. The retailer might not even know or care, it'll just be another payment method on his machine.

First seastead company actually selling sea homes: Ocean Builders https://ocean.builders  Of course we accept bitcoin.

Try last year, for two 7-11's in Utah starting accepting bitcoins due to the manager being the wife of a Bitcoiner. Oh, BTW, the Bitcoiner's name is Curtis Green known as bigasic in these parts of the internet. Maybe you've seen my thread where I called him out after introducing his GoFundMe campaign under the guise that he knew of it because he dated Curtis' daughter, which is really HIS daughter. Them Mormons are something else, eh?

Here's the thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1045937.msg11267798#msg11267798
Here's the campaign: http://www.gofundme.com/helpushelpcurtis

Hey,

I just got 2 7-11's to start taking  bitcoins, We are going to discuss the best method of taking bitcoin, we want it to be very simple for the customer. Also, i think this will bring a lot of business to these stores as we live in a mini silicon valley and many computer "geeks" love bitcoin, so they would go out of their way just to pay with bitcoin.

We are also going to sell bitcoin.  (we are going to make sure we are 100 percent legal with that) but, I think if its successful, we will get a lot of franchisees doing the same.

Please post your suggestions on how to advertise and go about taking btc. We are going to run a promotion, where we get the media involved, etc and offer discounts, and maybe even give away some bitcoin..

Your input is appreciated.

EDit (Moderator, please put this in the proper area, thanks)

It's anybody's guess at this point. There's a race with 1000 competitors and it's tough to predict the eventual winner.

Hey Joe,
Hats off to you for accepting bitcoin for your business!

As for the Bitcoin for slurpee prediction, that's really difficult to guess. It could be never, what if bitcoin doesn't fit into the currency gap and instead it's used for store of value? You can't buy a slurpee with gold but gold is still valuable and traded by some.
If bitcoin really takes off, 7-11 could accept bitcoin in the next 6 months.

And now it's time to play JUXTAPOSE:

http://joetowingnyc.com/about.html

Quote
The type of tow truck that transports your vehicle should matter to you. Some tow trucks (wreckers) are designed to be able to pull vehicles that have been damaged in an automobile accident. Tow trucks such as flat bed tow trucks are designed to make car, light trucks or motorcyle towing much easier. There are generally three types of tow trucks used in the United States. Our company uses two of these; the flatbed tow truck and wrecker truck. We do not use old-style sling tow trucks which often cause damage to front bumpers and front end parts.

It's cool that some stores are accepting it, I give it 3 years for more widespread adoption.

Right now any business owner or shops like this can easily engage in Bitcoin and attract some cache to their usual boring existence. I think the real game changer is an intermediary that's willing to process payments and take the price volatility risk out of the equation. Businesses take on enough risk, they don't need to add the risk that what they charge (in BTC) for a product one day, becomes significantly less the next day (as that Bitcoin sits, depreciating, in their wallet.)

Somewhat agree. Around five years or so.. I do think 7 Eleven will be starting to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment (hopefully.. a currency in the far future). However, we got lot to do before 7 Eleven starts accepting Bitcoin. We need to spread Bitcoin out to others. I hope to see someone buying Slurpee from 7 Eleven using Bitcoin five years later. #BitcoinSlurpee!

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

When it comes to the question on "when we are ready", there is always a big question mark. I guess when that happens, bitcoin has already reached that stage where you can consider mass adoption. Also you have to consider that in retail market we are talking about where you can just swipe, pay and go. I think this would take longer considering the fact that we haven't even been at its best when it comes to cross border transaction market segment where we would have the best chance to grab the market share.

there isn't much too read, is just a guessing thread it could happen between 1 to 5 years at worst

anyone will throw, his random guess...

but it could be added that something like this will happen after every major merchant incorporate bitcoin for their payment, i think that the acceptance of bitcoin will start from the big first, like a reverse pyramid

Eh, haven't you read Gleb Gamow's posts regarding Joe's "towing" services? He pointed out that the towing service doesn't exist at all, and the pictures on their website, along with some "customer feedback", came from different services as well.

Ignoring the towing service, convenience stores like 7/11 would probably step in in to the idea of taking bitcoin as a form of payment when most of the bigger players started doing so. Domino effect could probably happen and by then, it's nice to sip some Slurpee together with my girl in one blazing summer day.

I think adoption will be highly regional.  I live in the bay area and a few businesses here and there are already starting to accept it.  However when I visit my relatives in the south no one has even heard of it, and the businesses are not accepting it anywhere that I know of.
