What's the holdup with Bitcoin?  No lobbyists to bring it to McDonald's and make deals?  Transactions too slow?

Right now, people can tap their phone on the register and pay.  Should there be an effort to get retailers to accept Bitcoin, or should we just concentrate on easy ways to fund our Google Wallet and Apple Pay with Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a transactional currency BUT for items that don't require a large amount of transactions. The cost to the customer to convert dollars to BTC to pay for a McD's meal would not benefit the customer. It would benefit the restaurant and converter of those funds.

NOW, if one was able to pay with cash and have the option of receiving the 'change' in BTC would change that problem.

McDonald's is making every move it can to 100% eliminate every human possible from its store front service staff. Humans want 15$ an hour, and rather than do this they are working to fully automate the entire service process at all of their outlets. That is why they are using google and apple pay plus cc and debit. soon you will walk in to McD's and be greeted with a computer terminal and a touch screen, you enter your order, swipe, pay, and a robot delivers your dogshit food.

why dont they use BTC yet? simple. very few people use BTC. Also... even fairly familiar users constantly run into problems. BTC has end user problems. N00bz have 100s of pitfalls to bridge when making the simplest transactions..."OOps I accidentally sent 10BTC when I meant to send 0.01 BTC...what do?Huh" or " oooops I accidentally sent a tx fee of 100BTC when paying for my GMO processed garbage!!!!"

Micky-Dee would have to have a paid (15$/hr) employee on hand 24/7 to walk every BTC user through the process and/or amend every mistake they make... and considering they would probably do about 3 BTC transactions per month, it just isn't worth it.

go ahead and send mcdonalds all sorts of requests and demands, they dont give a shit (except the ones they sell to you disguised as burgers)

why should anyone bother to make obesity profitable via bitcoin via mcdonalds.

and if you think that im some vegetarian anorexic.. im quite the opposite

i would just rather see people contact supermarkets that have fresh fruit and veg sections, to accept bitcoin.. id rather see street markets and small businesses in every town accept it.

after all Dell accepting bitcoins may gain some "famous for 5 minutes" publicity. but its not really world changing. what would be world changing is every computer repair shop and soletrader to accept bitcoin.

and as for the word "lobby" thats just a crappy word you lot use to think that you dont/wont/cant contact retailers yourselves and your hoping that some specialist will do it for you.

yes i know the bitcoin foundation should do more, but my saying is 'if you want something done, do it yourself'. and i hate seeing soo many people sitting on their hands waiting for bitcoin to hit mass market and not realise that bitcoin is just code.. if you use bitcoin, you can do something..

.. in short get off ur asses and do something if you want it to happen

maybe bitcoin should have a more stable price because it will be a big loss for them if they accept bitcoin and then the price fell rock bottom

McDonald's always check market very well before any changes or application of new technology.
I'm sure that they are aware of BTC but right now it seems they are not ready to accept it.
We can only speculate about their reasons but it will not change their decision.
The only way this can happen is if the customers themselves ask for the ability to pay in Bitcoin, and if many customers request this McDonald's may reconsider bitcoin as way of payment.

it has also to do with the confirmation problem i believe, besides the converting problem, tha can be fixed if job start to pay in bitcoin directly, so you don't need to buy nothing, you can choose from there if you want to receive fiat or bitcoin

but i think that is the confirmation that are holding them back, they problably fear pending transaction and they won't accept them for now...

Dude, the hold up is the fact that the price is wildly volatile compared to all other currency options. Why would any business (especially McDonald's) want to add currency risk to their already lengthy business risks. McDonald's in the US is trying to fight the onslaught of forced minimum wage pressure, Bitcoin availability has to be low on the list. Further, you can still support the BTC economy by keeping your savings (at least short term) in BTC and then exchanging it out when you have to for purchases in fiat.

It's more likely that Apple Pay or Google Wallet will start operating in bitcoin before McDonald's starts accepting bitcoin. Ultimately the decision probably lies with the individual store owner (rather than McDonald's the corporation).

They said they are going to introduce a new way to pay for fast-food. And it is Apple Pay and Google Wallet? Many Bitcoiners thought that they are hinting about Bitcoin.. :/.

I do hope that they will accept Bitcoin sometime soon. It would probably take a few years before company like McDonald accept Bitcoin.

As to your question. Priority is to make merchants accept Bitcoin. If for whatever reason they are very against Bitcoin then we should focus on a way to "integrate" Bitcoin with Apply Pay and Google Wallet/

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

Do we really need another big company to adopt Bitcoin via a payment processor? They convert all income directly to fiat anyway, so there is no benefit for the Bitcoin community.

The payment processor on the other hand, palm all the profit from the fee they charge for the Bitcoin to fiat conversion.

Yes, the demand will increase, but if it's spend and converted to fiat, it would effectively not change anything. {We would see more irregular price spikes and lows}

They would also need to link it to a offchain payment token system, to speed up the transactions. You cannot wait for transaction confirmation in a drive-thru operation, where you need speed.

Let's be realistic, with the way Bitcoin works now, speed is not the best feature to sell it to Mc Donald's.  Sad

From what I've read so far, Apple Pay and Google Wallet are payment systems, but they are not actual currencies. PayPal, for example, is another payment system that can support payments made via a number of different fiat currencies. Most bitcoiners agree that some form of centralized payment system that supports instant off-chain transactions will take over for these types of situations anyway and integrating BTC into existing systems shouldn't be particularly difficult if the need ever arises.

The payment processor on the other hand, palm all the profit from the fee they charge for the Bitcoin to fiat conversion.

I don't think BitPay charges a fee for their conversion.

Apparently most of you haven't heard of Bitpay.  Retailers can accept Bitcoin as payment, Bitpay processes the payment, and the retailer can choose to have the amount given to them in fiat.  Bitpay handles the bitcoins, the retailer gets cash.  So all the comments about the price volatility don't necessarily apply.

As for Bitpay's fees, they're less than the credit card fees that are charged when you put money into Google Wallet or Apple Pay.

Are you saying McDonald's isn't profitable without Bitcoin?

Those places don't accept Apple Pay and Google Wallet.  But for places like McDonald's that already accept payment by tapping a cell phone, it's a short step to Bitcoin.

What if Dell sells more computers than every computer repair shop?  Then it's more world-changing for Dell to accept bitcoins.  Just like McDonald's provides food to millions of hungry people every day.  There is literally not enough time in your life to contact enough local restaurants and supermarkets to equal the impact of McDonalds.  If you convinced 1 foodseller every day to accept Bitcoin, it would take you over 100 years before you equalled the number of McDonald's in the world.

Then why haven't you talked to the CEO of McDonald's and used your influence with him?  You didn't feel like it?  Or maybe you have no way to contact him, and he wouldn't care what you said anyway?  Are you so delusional that you think a billion-dollar business offer from you carries the same weight as an offer from an official representative of Google?

It's not the end for Bitcoin if McDonald's is not accepting it now. McDonald's need to cater for the masses and we should agree Bitcoin is not ready yet. When Bitcoin becomes very popular in the future, I believe Google Wallet can accept Bitcoin to fund its wallet. There is still a long way to go for bitcoin to be accepted directly in high street shops. A middle-man payment agent seems to be the most probable solution.

Exactly what coinbase is I believe.  A middle-man payment processor which completes transactions off the blockchain, then pushes them to the blockchain.  This way the transactions can occur immediately?  But this is for coinbase-to-coinbase transactions.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

I think one of the reasons also is because they are established brand name, so the legal stuff kicks in and they would obviously want to deal with a payment system that is actually owned by a company. Bitcoin has none of that but in order to have that level of trust that they system is indeed reliable, we are talking about the scenario few years down the road.

It is not the end for bitcoin but it clearly shows what big companies thinks about bitcoin. I bet McDonald's thought of implementing some sort of cryptocurrency into their payment system but they decided against it.
I mean it is perfectly safe from the business point of view, as you see how bitcoin can be pretty problematic with HUGE price spikes and drops and bad press it it having right now. No wonder McDonalds would seek legitimate and solid method like Apple Pay and Google Wallet - you can't go wrong with it.

They can accept what they want, but I want BTC to be one of them or I would be pissed. I would like to pay for my McBurger with my McBitcoin NOW. If we demand it, they will accept it, if we keep quite nobody will take notice.
Buy your burger and chips and demand to pay in Bitcoin. When they deny your request, say the following : "So you want to ignore the fastest growing NEW trending currency out there?" Then report back here, I'd like to hear their response when 50 people do that in one location. ^Ha ha ha^

Im pretty sure we'll see machines with scaneable QR codes to pay with BTC in the future (no need to convert to fiat, BTC to BTC direct transaction). Also chargebacks will be possible, Andreas Antonopoulous has addressed this before.
