Every so often I find it amusing to find out what is the cheapest complete PC that can be built from parts on Newegg.
Today this was the result of 10 minutes of browsing.

APEX PC-389-C Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
$29.99   -$10.00 Instant   $19.99

Seagate Barracuda ST3250312AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
$36.99       $36.99

Hanns-G HW-173ABB Black 17" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor
$119.99   -$40.00 Instant   $79.99

AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Processor SDX140HBGQBOX
$37.99       $37.99

Patriot X-Porter 2GB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) Model PSF2GUSB
$5.99       $5.99

Subtotal: $257.91
Shipped: $277.56

The flash drive is for the assumption that the person does not have any PC whatsoever, but they could go to an internet cafe or something and put a bootable Linux installer on the flash drive.

I know I didn't consider net-tops or combo deals. See if you can do better : )

Haven't used TigerDirect since a shipping hassle a few years ago.

They do have some great deals on barebone machines.

My latest build :

I got an EVGA 750i mobo + Pentium D 925 CPU + 9800GT video card for $45 off ebay ( free shipping )

Added a 5850 today and sold the 9800GT that came w\ the mobo for 45.  So my mobo and cpu were free, $30 for a new psu, 80 for the 5770, and 170 for the 5850.  had the ram and hdd in my garage.

it's getting 190MH on the 5770 and 290MH on the 5850.  So 480MH build for $280.

Prices for computer parts are rather high here in Sweden. I was recently asked by a friend to create a cheap computer for him that will be able to play games like the sims etc (it was a computer for his sister after he accidentally destroyed her old one, and she had raged that he would be the one buying a new one for his money). This is what I come up with at the time, resulting at about $600 (Swedish prices) : http://www.prisjakt.nu/produktlistor.php?do=lista&k=959981. I put this together a couple of months ago, so there may be even cheaper alternatives.
