Doge actually uses scrypt, and I don't really know how peercoin works but they claimed that they are hybrid. bitcoin = first cryptocurrency litecoin = first scryptcoin and altcoin doge = based on a joke peercoin = ?

Yeah peercoin uses a proof-of-stake/proof-of-work hybrid system (the first cryptocurrency to use POS). The network transaction fees are also destroyed (not paid to miners), which offsets the inflation caused by minting new coins.

What is the difference between bitcoin, dogecoin, litecoin and peercoin?
Some useful discussion here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1072125.0 on bitcoin, litecoin and dogecoin. Peercoin is yet another altcoin based on different principles, but also a fork of the bitcoin source code.

Just different cryptos, while btc and ltc are for some time being traded directly for fiat (btc first) the other two still deals with a conversion to btc to do so. Also while btc has a much larger community none of the other 3 can compare, the stabilitty btc has been achieving this days (in %) is also a difference point as those "smaller" coins tends to be much more volatile.

Altcoins really went down with all the pump/dump coins. It's sad as I enjoyed altcoins. But unless trading those are the two I would keep ahold of. And personally I would go a lot more into bitcoin, I think it has the best potential longterrm. That is my opinion though.

What is the difference between bitcoin, dogecoin, litecoin and peercoin?
bitcoin is main cryptocurrency and the most reliable of all cryptos if you want to buy. besides it has more usage than others. the rest are just altcoins that don't really have a good future. i only like Dogecoin because of its community, and the rest are just for trading and gaining profit...
|
Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip. Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

What is the difference between bitcoin, dogecoin, litecoin and peercoin?
Bitcoin was the first cryptocoin and is the preferred coin by most of people. Litecoin and Dogecoin have a wide community adoption. There are lots of people that uses them (but not as many as Bitcoin). Percoin doesn't have the same community support than the previous coins, but It have a different algorithm (It's like NXT) and It could increase their usage, because that algorithm is very efficient. But I think that It wont replace BTC, because if that algorithm is enough secure, Bitcoin code could be modified and adopt it. ---- Remember that Dogecoin doesn't have a fixed amount of coins. The number increases with the time, so It can have inflation. Bitcoin and Litecoin have a fixed amount of coins. I use Bitcoin for savings

Another way to look at coins is to check their volume and market cap. This will give you a really good idea of what the community thinks about them. Keep in mind these numbers change all the time. Many alts rise and fall for any number of reasons. I agree with the gold/silver comparison because bitcoin and litecoin seem to be the most stable and widely used of the coin. But again check volume and market cap to see how much of what is being used.

What is the difference between bitcoin, dogecoin, litecoin and peercoin?
Basically they all are crypto currencies with differences in the way they function, or their origin script. It's not difficult to make a new crypto currency for yourself, making it valuable is another ball game though

So, in considering precious metals and cryptocurrency analogies, if Litecoin is the silver to Bitcoin's gold, then what is copper?
Copper is in all these different electronics, et cetera. Which altcoin gets to claim to be copper? That's my question.

Consider that every alt coin relies on bitcoins value.
I think i would just save the time and headache and just invest with bitcoin, just in my observation.
