Hello,

Is there any point in me buying a bitcoin miner or not?

The amount of power it uses is not an issue as I do not pay for power.

I am not looking to spend a lot on it can anyone suggest any?

Budget: $200 and looking to mine whatever coin would make the most money and is the most stable? Probably BTC right?

with 200 is better to look at some antminer s3, they are resistant miners, they should perform good, not very efficient but who care if you don't pay your bill, but they can only mine sha256 coin(basically only bitcoin now, the rest are buried)

if you want to mine something else better to go to the altcoin section

With that small a budget you might find it hard to make any real profit.  You have to look at what is available in that price range.  Most likely you will want used stuff.  But don't forget that you will likely need a PSU and might also need a computer to hhok it up to, depending on the model.  Calculate the costs and include the cost of electricity to see what your profit, if any, might be.  Keep in mind that the network difficulty usually goes up over time and the price of bitcoin can fluctuate quiet a lot.  These things will effect your returns.

If you are interested in mining for a hobby that is fine.  But if your main goal is to make money then you might be better off checking out a mining service like hashnest.  Best of luck!

Altcoin would be a better choice for $200, you need a pc with a power supply and as good graphics card as you can get though.  From what I understand, it'll be useless for anything else while using it to mine but you can always stop mining temp if you need to use the pc for something else.

Man, if I didn't have to pay for electric...might be worth renting a small studio that's all bills paid and cram that sucker with miners and run it full bore till management caught up with me...

but if you want a full BTC you can check out the loaning section of the forum and give microloans, just be careful and take the necessary precautions (and collateral) if you choose to follow my suggestion. I would get more acquainted with the forum's rules before choosing to do so though.

In case you dont live in a student home, where the power is paid for often, and instead your parents pay the power cost, then i think you will be found out. They surely will see the additional power cost and will search for the problem.

If you can live with that... though maybe its something different.

S3 from Kijiji should work great at that budget.
