The strategy is obvious: Gavin thinks he holds so much sway over Bitcoin that an announcement about a fork will upset enough apple carts that people will lose faith temporarily in Bitcoin, driving the price down; then he buys up huge amounts of BTC at the lower price.

Then he and the other devs work together to fix Bitcoin Core, and forget about the fork.

The price goes back up - maybe WAY UP.

Classic PUMP AND DUMP!

Possible but I have a lot more trust in Gavin, he would not do that. If he is after money, he could have pursued a more money making position in a VC project with lots of funding. May be the one founded by the other core devs.

He does not need to go to this extreme to make a few hundred BTC.

He already has ample amount of BTC and this would not be the way for him to get some more. He is already rich and there are much better ways for him to get more rich, including funding/investing in Bitcoin ventures or start one himself.

Stop this FUD or move it to speculation section.

He would not need to get more BTC, but an increase in price per BTC is very good for him.. If he indeed has say 100,000 btc, every dollar in price increase would make his net worth grow by 100k USD. I thiink he has plenty incentive to pump the price.

Woah look they bought a hero account to spread their fun now.  OK NOW its legit  Roll Eyes  Seriously though, this problem of block size NEEDS to be addressed soon.  You can choose the guy who is just fixing the problem, or his money grubbing cohorts who are stonewalling the change only for their own benifit.  If you want to blame anyone for some fictional pump and dump scheme blame them.

But going by OP's logic, the price may as well do down instead of going up. So there is a greater chance of losing than winning.

(Price will go higher than current levels when core wallet is 'fixed' is just a pure gamble or speculation).

I hope this is a joke, otherwise your ignorance is astounding.

There are those in the crypto eco-system that are here because we WANT to be here for the betterment of mankind, not just to make a quick dollar. I consider Gavin one of those people (as well as most respected developers). Regardless of the side, one truth can be asserted and that is those involved with this "argument" are doing it because of the passion (at the highest levels), not because of "cheap coins". Personally I've been thinking about coming out and making a few statements but I will hold my tongue for now.

Gavin was never working for the money on the client, he also said so, why he should do something like this, if he already has tons of bitcoin? it would no be healthy for global distribution

and actually isn't the news about the tx itself that is driving the price down, but all the fud about spreaded by troll on this and other forum

I thought the same. It's a totally valid idea. They possibly even pump LTC before.
