I want to create a professional commercial for bitcoin --how do I go about it?

I want to create/produce a high-quality bitcoin commercial, similar to Apple or Nike commercials in terms of simplicity and elegance. I feel like there should be something like this, and it would help a lot of people gain awareness and trust, but of course it would cost money.  

It should show bitcoin's basic capabilities in a simple fashion... i.e.-- a guy from Tokyo texting his mom in the USA requesting lunch money... the mom quickly opens an app and sends a $ amount (in bitcoin) instantly to the guy's phone (and it shows up in yen)... and the phone generates a QR code which the guy scans at the register to purchase his food. .....can this be done so quickly and easily with our current banking system? Hell no. Another example in the commercial could be of a poor kid holding up a QR code in a picture or video that goes viral, and he receives donations from people all over the world.

It should show some examples of how powerful and useful bitcoin can be, in ways that are not possible with our current banking/monetary system. The purpose of this commercial is to spread awareness, and maybe convince people that bitcoin is actually legitimate. I wish something like this could be played during the Superbowl or between a popular TV show that younger people watch.

I'm willing to work on this for free because I believe bitcoin has an incentive based model where the benefits are real, and the more the network grows the greater the benefits are for everyone in the network. That's why it doesn't "need" advertising, and it's come as far as it did without any. But advertising will still help regardless, and I want to play my part in the bitcoin community and create something which, imo, can be very useful in terms of spreading awareness.


A youtube commercial would be great, but having it on prime time TV or in the Superbowl would be even better but it'll cost $$$. If I was someone like Tim Draper, I'd fund it myself... but since I'm not, anyone have ideas for an approach? A non-profit kickstarter for a good cause in helping bitcoin adoption? Anyone interesting in helping with the commercial? Is it a bad idea overall? Thoughts?

Not enough to make it in the quality I want it to be... I don't want it to look like it was made by an amateur, I want it to be Nike/Apple level in terms of quality. So yeah, I'd definitely need a team for this.


On a high level I've visualized exactly how I'd want the commercial to be like, but it's certainly open to discussion

you need to be more creative, and think more about bitcoin features and benefits. and be something unique that cant be confused by any current FIAT systems available..

I feel weird about Bitcoin in general having commercials? Wouldn't it be a bit strange to see a commercial for the internet and not a business involved? I think Bitcoin has the ability and the skills that it will grow naturally without advertisements.

That's a good point, and yeah, maybe it would be a bit strange in that sense. Although it could be sponsored by Coinbase and Circle since there is good incentive for them to spread bitcoin adoption too. But commercials don't necessarily need a business involved, think about the anti-tobacco Truth commercials... those commericals are only there to spread awareness and they're very popular.

Also, advertising has become a lucrative business with many approaches and is much more effective today than it was back in the day. And FYI- there was actually a cheesy commercial for the internet that came out back in the 90s:

But this commercial will be completely different. And yes, some people may see it and say "WTF was that about?" since there is not company involved, but subconsciously it makes bitcoin a little more legitimate in their head when they keep hearing about it (outside the premise that it's a magical internet money for drugs)

I disagree, Western Union is not instant; it takes several days for money to transfer if I recall and they take a large fee on top of that. Can you receive money from someone in another country via PayPal and use that money to purchase something on the fly? This is showing someone requesting money, receiving it, and using it within a span of 10 mins or less.  But I agree, there will be other examples too, things that show how beneficial bitcoin is over the current fiat system. Imo, as far as transferring payments and using it for purchasing right away I think bitcoin is much more useful than PayPal, and certainly more useful than WU.

western union isnt several days.. and paypal is multinational.. if both cases were long and jurisdictionally limited then it would be easier and faster to post a visacard to someone to use at their local ATM.. the reason why people dont post prepaid cards abroad is because WU and PP are not slow.

i would be more inclined to not concentrate on transmission speed as the argument would be that the time to buy bitcoin before transmission would nigate any benefits of the transmission itself.

EG if i had $$ and i had the choice to credit a paypal account vs depositing into an exchange to buy bitcoins. paypal will win the speed race.

id concentrate on the no fee, free setup, no chargeback part. EG show a homeless guy with a paper QR code sat infront of him. showing that even the unbanked and poor can accept electronic payments without cost

The blockchain is a technical implementation. I don't think it's suitable for a commercial.

I agree, it would make people be confused and have no idea about that. I think its better if it just introduce the what bitcoin is, and let the people want to know more about bitcoin themselves, like about the wallets and kind of transactions .

I don't think it is just your job but it is our every single bitcoiner's job, that is to spread bitcoin's concept and teach the skills of using bitcoin. But specially the business startups, they have a lot of money and resource to do such kinds of video  and raise different campaigns to raise the awareness of bitcoin.

You don't want to use speed for the commercial. There are lots of fast services like Amazon Payments. You want something unique to Bitcoin that it can do better than anything else.

How about two guys sitting on a sofa eating pizza when one of them opens a tin box and finds it empty.



The next scene shows the guy on the computer with a Bitcoin wallet app open.



Then you see a postman making a delivery.



The next scene is the two guys giving each other a high five with a full tin.

some kind of informative advertising would be helpful to raise public awareness about bitcoin to use it for online shopping, funds transfer with high speed transaction around the world, that idea is very nice and some kind of commercial ads can get attention from many people for its very low fees and super fast transaction speed.

First Explain what bitcoin is and for what purposes because if you make a commercial they think what bitcoin are stands for ? they can help some people ? or just want to make a name for fame ? and do you have any experience for making such a video and making commercial is not easy the way you think about it

frankys idea about the millions of unbanked across the world would be a good start, the ad could show the simplicity of downloading a wallet and being able to buy goods instantly without having to faff around providing id, credit checks, fulling out tons of forms etc.

keeping it simple and in laymans terms would help not alienate the non tech crowd (for now).
