The Federal Reserve can not fully comply with a Congressional subpoena related to the leaking of sensitive central bank meeting information, Fed Chair Janet Yellen said, according to Dow Jones.

The news service cited a June 4 letter from Yellen to Rep. Jeb Hensarling, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. CNBC could not immediately confirm the letter or its details.

Yellen cited the advice of the Fed's inspector general in declining to fully answer the subpoena, Dow Jones reported. She also said an open criminal investigation precluded the Fed from sharing some information.

Hensarling subpoenaedthe Fed late last month, seeking information on how details of a September 2012 meeting came out from a research firm a day before the bank released them publicly.
