One problem is Kickstarter, indiegogo, etc, are more valuable for the service they provide than just the payment method component. They provide an easy way to introduce a project to an interested community, manage the process of listing and promoting items that essentially is pre-selling, process payments, etc.)
An entrepreneur with support from a community doesn't need a Kickstarter gimmick for donations. Simply throw up a bitcoin address or an ecommerce site.
The problem with that is obvious the stuff Kickstarter does is what the entrepreneur/project owner is probably not that great at doing, and doesn't have the reach of a Kickstarter.
Equity crowdfunding changes things quite a bit. While I might not be interested in donating or buying the first item off the line (at an inflated price so as to subsidize its manufacture) I might definitely be interested in owning a piece of the company as a shareholder.

http://www.wikispeed.comStephen you hit the nail on the head. I'll be writing a more in-depth response to what you just said shortly on our blog. The whole 'crowdfunding with bitcoins' goes way beyond crowdfunding and our focus/goal is on introducing bitcoin through this medium.
How you ask? We want to introduce one-off ideas that can
ONLY be bought with bitcoin hopefully leaving a
mysterioustic feel to the whole process and introducing bitcoins to the world. Just imagine if Tik-tok watch was bitcoin only people would have to get in to get it the product. There is a
TON more that needs to be done then just putting up a payment address and expecting a 'build it and they will come' thinking . We want to emphasize that we'll take pride in the projects that will be listed and help them succeed none of the above services have that in mind IMHO. We've actually been in touch with wikispeed and they are interested in using us.
More to come ...maybe I'll post a screenshot or two of what we have so far.
Edit: I noticed bitcoinfunding has a min. BTC btc pledge requirement we don't have it. We also will return people's BTC if the project fails i.e. like
kickstarter. These are the few little things that make us different. Sort off looks like he/she just slapped a template together without any back-end as I see another crowdfunding site with the same template they have.
