Curious to know what altcoin people think. Are you deeply involved in an altcoin and its philosophy where you believe that it will one day be more popular than bitcoin? Would this therefore make bitcoin an altcoin/ shitcoin?
Satoshi ninja launched bitcoin. A lot of altcoin 'devs' do the same thing. Same tactics, different period of time.
Discuss.

The chance was very low if bitcion wouldn't have major issues. But the difference is that most of ppl involved in cryptocurrencies put more attention on bitcoin rather than altcoins. The bitcoin's ecosystem is gradually building up!

IMO altcoins means they came out after the original one. But it doesn't mean they are not good! Many altcoins has improved a lot compared with the existing bitcoin. Or they supplement the functions of bitcion, like sidechain, colored coins etc.

Satoshi didn't ninja launch bitcoin, nobody cared about it when he launched it. There was nowhere to announce its mpending launch unlike today. Nowadays we have the alt announcements section of this forum for new coin announcements.
A ninja launch is when an alt dev doesn't announce the impending launch of his coin in the announcements section.

I think this will be the only informative post in this thread. By definition altcoins are alternative coins to Bitcoin. It's simply slang that became accepted as a way to describe everything after Bitcoin. It doesn't mean altcoins are synonymous with "shitcoins". I mean that's like saying you can't call an electric company an electric company simply because General Electric came first. They are all electric companies, just as bitcoin and all altcoins are called the misnomer-ish name "cryptocurrencies".

The bad ones tarnish the reputation of the good ones so much that some people view all alt coins as synonymous with shit coins.

the thing is whenever you mention the word "altcoin" in crypto world first thing that comes to everybody's mind is scam/ pump and dump / shitcoin. and to be honest it is not completely wrong assumption.
as long as there is a stronger cryptocurrency called bitcoin with the huge support, and there is no altcoin available that has enough potential to replace, or compete with it, nothing can replace bitcoin.

Altcoins are which provide an alternate option to Bitcoin. These altcoins work the same way as Bitcoin and are just alternates
Some coins like Namecoin, Monero do things which Bitcoin cant and wont ever. So they are not altcoins, but simply complement coins

'Altcoin' is a bad name for this phenomenon. These are not 'alternatives'.

Altcoin is to Bitcoin as clone was to IBM PC. After IBM lost its position as PC leader, clones were (are) simply known as PCs. When Bitcoin loses its dominant position, alts will probably simply be called coins or digital. People will forget that the term "alt" even existed as the have forgotten about the term "clone."

I believe there is no way an altcoin would replace bitcoin ever, and neither I consider it as a bitcoin.
Its already widely adopted. Considering it an altcoin would mean something else taking its place. it just won't happen. People have taken so many years just to get used to it. Switching from bitcoin to an altcoin, isn't like the shift from Gold to Fiat Notes. Most of the altcoins are just like bitcoin with only some differences. Its like saying that people would shift from using gold as a payment system , to using diamond or silver as one.

Bitcoin was probably the most fair launch as anybody could literaly mine it with their computer at launch.

How can bitcoin be another altcoin or shitcoin when it has the biggest market cap and the most widely adopted cryptocurrency around?

No. Bitcoin is not consider a altcoin. In fact, most of the altcoin is created based on Bitcoin code. If they think Bitcoin is a badcoin (dont like the term s*** here), their altcoin is also a badcoin then. Unless the altcoin is not created based on Bitcoin, they cannot say Bitcoin is a badcoin - well.. the story is different if you talk about Ripple and Node.

"Ninja launch" How many people would have satoshi been releasing to mr bear lol I am not deeply involved in any wanna b altcoin but they do make me extra bitcoin daily and weekly so I won't slate them to much because they can be good, they are just not getting the exposure that will be needed to make them successful nor do I think they ever will. Nothing will make bitcoin a shitcoin that is just in the imagination of the few truth trolls, Obviously I mean lying little turds.

Bitcoin could never be a altcoin. I have nothing against altcoins themselves, so I don't generalize them and use 'shitcoin' to describe all of them. A altcoin is a alternate coin derived from the ideology of Bitcoin/the first cryptocurrency. Bitcoin can't necessarily become a alternate alternative for itself. There's no way it could be a altcoin. So no, Bitcoin isn't a altcoin and that's a true fact. Not a biased opinion.

As already stated, Bitcoin cannot (by definition) be an altcoin. Also, Bitcoin cannot be considered a sh*tcoin (in comparison to any other crypto) as it is the (de facto) standard bearer for all crypto-currencies to follow.
Other related questions....
Is Bitcoin technically superior to all other coins (altcoin or otherwise)? Possibly not.
Does it matter? Not yet.
Will it matter in the future? Possibly.... but we're a long way away from Bitcoin being surpassed by any crypto. There is scope of course as Bitcoin has yet to crossover to the mainstream. Yet to be seen whether Bitcoin will be to crypto what 'mySpace' is to social media or what Coca Cola is to cola.
