EDIT: Here a CNN Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RvKNc2N6OU

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2015/06/jihadist-us-teen-faces-prison-for-blog-tweets-about-encryption-and-bitcoin/

Quote
Dana Boente, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said the youth's guilty plea "demonstrates that those who use social media as a tool to provide support and resources to ISIL will be identified and prosecuted with no less vigilance than those who travel to take up arms with ISIL."

According to the defendant's signed "Admission of Facts" filed Thursday, Amin started the @amreekiwitness Twitter handle last June and acquired some 4,000 followers and tweeted about 7,000 times. (The Twitter handle has been suspended.) Last July, the teen tweeted a link on how jihadists could use Bitcoin "to fund their efforts."

But, if you're a US banker...

But, if the teen would've tweeted how US dollars could be used to fund said efforts...

... would be the same: arrest for supporting terrorism

He was arrested for tweeting about ISIL and jihadism, not just Bitcoin and encryption. The fact that he is saying that Bitcoin could help ISIL just makes this worse. The media is just using this "connection" to paint Bitcoin in a darker light.

The more this gets known to the supporters of of them, the worse it can become. Imagine all the extra financial support that could go that way. Hate to see that happen..

He retweeted how to fund a known criminal organization.

Why the fuck would he get off scott free? Maybe I should get off free if I retweet a specific darknet instruction on how to rape without leaving a genetic evidence in public social media forums?

They used this tweet as proof that ISIS is using bitcoins for recruitment and paying for their terrorist operations.

The war propaganda machine is alive and well.

He was obviously going to get in trouble, as everything is monitored nowadays and funding criminals is obviously not a good thing to do.

They took advantage of the fact that the boy mentioned Bitcoin to make it look worse for the misinformed general public. Another piece of news that makes people think that Bitcoin is only used for criminal activities and that fiat is the only salvation after baby Jesus Roll Eyes

Just another example of why you should not express your beliefs in public if you live in the United States.

The Patriot Act might be gone but it was replaced by the Freedom Act which is worse.

Treat your thoughts like your private keys and keep it in cold storage.

If he had worked for HSBC he could have laundered $billions for Mexican drug cartels (nutcases who also chop people to pieces) and got away with no criminal charges....

Just a dumb kid who tweeted something stupid, at most he should get some kind of community service.

Yeah this means hes tweeting about supporting things they didnt like.  It wouldnt matter if he suggested cash in hand as a means to support jihadists he would still face the same issues.

And a tweet about doing a US tax return would be what?

I am a bit confused about that part; so far USG commits a lot more atrocities than ISIS; from police violence to illegal wars and war crimes to imperialistic justice.

Just that ISIS is more brutal. But if ISIS was a bit more humane and USG a bit more brutal (they are getting there...), then what? Where would be the tipping point where a neutral outsider would say, USG is the terrorist and ISIL the good guys?

At the moment many governments are worse than USG on a relative scale, on an absolute scale its' a different story.

Truth is the new hatespeech.

OP, is guys like you that make Bitcoiners seem like whinny cultists.
He's giving ideas to terrorists in how to fund their killings. He would have faced prison if he told them to use Kickstarter. You are stretching this way too much.
But yeah prison is too much, specially for some dumb teen.
