I currently have frootvpn but despite paying them a few bucks each month, I found out that they don't work in china. Are there any free vpns that work in China or ways that I can use frootvpn in china?

VPN services are indeed under attack in China, and it's got a lot of people talking these days. GFW knows every VPN that many people use, and they can block them at any time they like. One of my friend recommend me that list of China VPN http://www.bestvpnprovider.com/china-vpn and said that they are still working fine hope it will help you.

Could you also get in trouble if they found it on your laptop as a tourist? Personally I would not risk any chance of being considered a spy in China.
