Pirate@40?
Mt Gox is promising to refund, but some say that they knew that they didn't have the money to withdraw before they broke. To me they count as a scam aswell.

Woodcollector is the most recent one and got a lot of hate for what he did, his idea was pretty unique too, he made cheap wood carvings and claimed they were hand calved so he could con people out of a lot of money for it.

Yeah I cant quite work that one out? Blazedout and others paid a lot of money for carvings apparently and he's no fool so not sure exactly what happened there. Perhaps he was in on the treasure hunt again not sure what happened to that either.

I spend quite a lot of time on here but obviously not enough...

I'm actually not quite sure how anyone fell for that one.   Pretty elaborate, but still.

Let's also not forget TF and the story behind Inputs.io. Although almost nobody believes that he was hacked.

You're new? You're a Full Member. Did you buy this account or something. How much did moriaty scam? I think the biggest scammer should be the user who scammed the most coins beyond reasonable doubt but not sure how many he took.

The biggest scammer that I can remember is Mark Karpeles who makes moriartybitcoin look like a tiny little fish. 180btc moriaty got? Mark got 480million if I remember rightly Smiley

Proof? Could have been anyone at his company.

He didn't scam that much but at least he actually sent the product, he just sold it as something it wasn't (though they still looked great regardless that he didn't actually hand carve them).

As somebody who does actually make Jewellery by hand, I can tell you it's a very common problem and does fall within scamming, even if it isn't a scam, it's still incredibly dishonest, unfortunately a lot of people do it and don't think there's anything wrong with it.

The problem is people like Woodcollector inevitably make it more difficult for genuine crafters to make and sell stuff online because of the trust lost.

Wasn't the biggest scam the hackings of some of the Darknet markets? Didn't the owner of sheep run off with millions and was then caught later on trying to launder funds and arrested?

It's dishonest and probably fraud if you misrepresent something, but there are worse scams. If somebody at least got something it's better than nothing. From what I remember most of woodcollecters buyers were happy with the products they recieved though that doesn't excuse it. I would have wanted a refund personally if I had of bought one from him.

Possibly, but no. Have you even read the thread title?
It says the biggest scammer on Bitcointalk, i.e. here; not on the Darknet.

I am new to this forum and I can see that 20% of the users have red trust.
They've definitely deserved that red trust. A lot of them tend to complain but that just wastes everyone's time.
