Why did you use an address created by someone else and that too by an anonymous person? Lesson learned.

Post your evidence or transactions.
It doesn't matter if he posts evidence or not but its really a risky deal because you're entrusting money to an unknown person which knows the private keys of your wallet..

TXID? But nevertheless, no one should use a vanity generator that is 1) Online 2) Allows the owner to know the private key. You could have downloaded a vanity generator or use a site with split key generation feature.

better to be scammed now, than after you will store something on web generated address...generate it on your PC, if you want vanity one.

its 2015 - people were talking down on vanity addresses back in 2011....why on earth would you ever want one? IDK you gave no details on the vanity address nor the transaction which took the funds, nor the address where the funds ended up...that's not reasonable to throw a scam claim out there like that without ALSO providing evidence as well. I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm saying prove it happened.
Also, don't use Vanity Gen, vanity addresses of any kind nor mini addresses/mini private keys - those are uncommon formats that are not normally supported in the reference core client.

It is supported. Looking at your post, it seems to me that you don't know about vanitygen. Please do your research before posting. Thank you! OP used a vanity address which was *generated* by an anonymous person. That is, that person most probably has control over private keys of all the addresses generated through BitcoinVanitygen.com. To avoid this, you can either generate one yourself(in a secure computer) or use split-key generation.

Fair enough - but my feelings still remain about generating a vanity address to hold and share with others for bitcoin payments. I hastily put vanity generated addresses in there but you're right they're fully compatible as it's just a private key.

@OP: Please post proof. You can't just come here and accuse someone without any proof. Fair enough - but my feelings still remain about generating a vanity address to hold and share with others for bitcoin payments. I hastily put vanity generated addresses in there but you're right they're fully compatible as it's just a private key.
Why are you hesitated to use a vanity address? What security does vanity address lacks?

You may want to phrase this a bit better. Now, your post tells others can see private keys of addresses you generate through vanitygen which is not true. OP and the person in the thread you mentioned used a website controlled by someone anonymous. They can easily store private keys of your addresses and redeem coins from it. If you use vanitygen locally, this won't happen.

I did generate a few addresses using this service. However, I never used those addressees as I know they have my private key. I just use those service for fun. If I really want a vanity address, I will not ask a trusted user to generate for me. I will generate it myself. Also remember to use the original version of vanitygen - or maybe some popular one.

You can ask someone to generate it for you if you don't have the computing power to do it but ONLY do it with split key vanity generation that way you can get be sure that only you would know it's private key and the not the vanity address generator. I had couple of addresses made by someone through that but I lost em in a HD crash.
