Hardware Wallets - Secure your Coins! :-)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=899253.0

Trezor's look awesome, I've been thinking about buying one for ages. 90% (rough estimate) of my stash is stored on BIP38 encrypted paper wallets. I have been thinking about buying a trezor for a while now. I've read that they're really secure & they look cool. I'm just a paranoid kind of dude & worried about moving my coins from paper wallets.
I mean how are Trezor's powered? What if it breaks or fails? Are the private keys stored in some kind of potential scammy cloud system?
I feel really safe with my paper wallets but keep getting tempted by Trezor.

I think trezors come with a mnemonic to restore the private key like electrum/multibit.

theres nothing here. message me if you want to put something here.

i have thought about getting a trezor for myself to store some bitcoin for long term and put it away in a safe place, but honestly i can not convince myself to pay around $100 for a bitcoin wallet.

and you shouldn't because there is a still good alternative that are vastly cheaper

i'm more interested in something that resemble a usb but maybe offer better security, like that bitbox

but i'll not pay more than..$10? becauyse i can have a good security with paper/which i don't like) or usb(which i'm currently using)

I'm on same boat, anyway I decided just to print paper wallets and store them. if you want to for long-term and you are not planning to withdraw them for years, paper wallet are imho even better solution.

Hardware wallets are going cheap nowadays. The HW1 costs 15 euros, roughly 0.07 btc at today's price. That is very cheap! A practical wallet for cold storage.

just dont store all BTC in one place! that is always a good advice. because the keys for the paper wallets could be compromised (could...) or the trezor code could be compromised.

you can store 50% on paper wallets (more than one) and 50% on a hardware wallet (more than one?) for example.

Imo offline paperwallet easily made with Armory is still the best super long storage way to go. Im too lazy to get it done but i'll eventually do it. For now i've been rocking Core for ages and i've never had a problem. Just don't install malware.

I dont trust 3rd party hardware. Best bet is to use pendrive and cold wallet.

^^^^I can side with you on that. Just download some paper wallets, and load the BTC onto your paper wallets. Its cheaper, and safer without a doubt.

Some of the designs looks really cool. But the question is: do we really need them? I think they are pretty neat gadget but you don't really hardware wallet for anything you couldn't achieve without it.
You can buy it only if you like the awesome look of the device. I can be safe with standard offline, paper wallet...

I have bad luck with paper.  Cats pee on it, children eat it, and it catches on fire easy.  If you have bad luck like me then a HW wallet is great.  Ledger has a cheap one, I think it is $15, it is basically the same as their more expensive model with less shiny stuff.

I think the ledger blue looks sexy, and the Mycelium has the best slogan ever.  Maybe they are not for everyone, but I really like HW wallets.
