Let's see... For me I say YES
You might wish to change the title to when, not if.
Block 210,000 it happens. [Edit: The poll question was reworded to be more clear: "if the 'plan' to halve reward is changed, will you quit bitcoin?" ]

+1. Those nodes/miners would need to vote with their client. There is no voting. Just do nothing— your node will happily ignore idiots who made a totally worthless fork, no matter how many of them there are. This post might as well say, "Will you quit bitcoin if some people install on their own computers a web interface to paypal called bitcoin?"

This post might as well say, "Will you quit bitcoin if some people install on their own computers a web interface to paypal called bitcoin?" +1 Such a fork and how the sum of Bitcoin market forces changes would be very interesting though... We have already seen a number of clones with different rules, which seem to predict which way it would ultimately turn out... BTW, there would in fact be voting, because as the Buddhists say, "One cannot 'do nothing'! One can only 'do not doing'!" So, it would be voting by "not doing"...

Poll is misworded. Any such fork would no longer be bitcoin, and I'm sticking with what I've got.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

I can't vote either way. For me, the choice would really be: 1. go with the group playing by the original bitcoin rules 2. go with the group playing by the new bitcoin rules 3. go with some other p2p cryptocurrency clone or type 4. go with some other choice i don't have in mind yet Cryptocurrencies seem to be here to stay; it would be unwise to "quit"...

I have bought, used, and given away BTC with the understanding that they would be produced according to certain rules. Changing those rules after the start of the game is attempted theft. It is no different than accepting gold-backed dollars only to be told afterwards, "Those aren't worth anything any more. We decided to print a few billion extras even though we told you we were only printing as much as our reserves could cover. Sorry."
Fortunately, BTC has one important difference. You can't steal from me unless I allow it. You can't change the rules on me unless I go along with that change.
So what do you think I would do in this hypothetical situation?

"plan" to halve reward is changed, The halve is already there, the plan is to let it happen. If the plan is changed it certainly won't be called Bitcoin. So yes I'll stay with Bitcoin.

Of course not. But, this is open source. Anyone that wants to can edit it to remove the shift, and they can even distribute their changed version. I don't expect that anyone would actually use it though, for many reasons.

I would take it another step. What we are doing is participating in a mass agreement on the rules of the system. The name doesn't matter. The software doesn't matter, except to the extent that it enforces the agreement as our agent. What matters is the rules. Even if some random new dude doesn't understand the implications of the rules, the most important parts of the ecosystem are currently in the hands of anarchists and libertarians, and they do understand the rules perfectly well, and they won't accept any silly changes. Here is the hilarious part though. Even if some people made their own client that allowed the 50 BTC subsidy to continue forever, it wouldn't matter a damn bit. Even their clients would accept 25 BTC blocks as valid (the test is <= not ==), but the 25 BTC clients would not see the 50 BTC blocks as valid. So, the whole network would still follow the correct rules, and the people mining for 50 BTC would get NOTHING. Not even 50 BS-BTC to spend on their forked chain. They would need to add another gratuitously incompatible change too, if they wanted to fork.

I don't care I will continue to sell BTC for real cash as fast as I can. BTC is a pipe dream. FIAT in its awful glory is what matters. BTC is only worth anything because is can be changed to FIAT. Take that away and its worthless binary

You've got it backwards. It can be converted to other currencies because it is in fact worth something.

New poll: How many people want to change their answer because they initially misread the question?
Yes plz. Yeah delete this entire thread and try again. It seems like many people who answered no meant they would just keep on with their client, and many people who answered yes meant the same thing (assuming that the unchanged client would not be the official bitcoin one). The poll should have 3 options. A. Stay with the current reward scheme B. Move to the new reward scheme C. Quit bitcoin entirely
