+1.

There is no voting. Just do nothing— your node will happily ignore idiots who made a totally worthless fork, no matter how many of them there are. Smiley

This post might as well say, "Will you quit bitcoin if some people install on their own computers a web interface to paypal called bitcoin?"

Such a fork and how the sum of Bitcoin market forces changes would be very interesting though...  Cool

We have already seen a number of clones with different rules, which seem to predict which way it would ultimately turn out...

BTW, there would in fact be voting, because as the Buddhists say, "One cannot 'do nothing'! One can only 'do not doing'!" So, it would be voting by "not doing"... Cheesy

Poll is misworded.  Any such fork would no longer be bitcoin, and I'm sticking with what I've got.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

I can't vote either way. For me, the choice would really be:

1. go with the group playing by the original bitcoin rules
2. go with the group playing by the new bitcoin rules
3. go with some other p2p cryptocurrency clone or type
4. go with some other choice i don't have in mind yet

Cryptocurrencies seem to be here to stay; it would be unwise to "quit"...  Cool

Is this seriously being considered? I haven't seen any real debate on the matter. Link?

I have bought, used, and given away BTC with the understanding that they would be produced according to certain rules.  Changing those rules after the start of the game is attempted theft.  It is no different than accepting gold-backed dollars only to be told afterwards, "Those aren't worth anything any more.  We decided to print a few billion extras even though we told you we were only printing as much as our reserves could cover.  Sorry."

Fortunately, BTC has one important difference.  You can't steal from me unless I allow it.  You can't change the rules on me unless I go along with that change.

So what do you think  I would do in this hypothetical situation?

If the plan is changed it certainly won't be called Bitcoin. So yes I'll stay with Bitcoin.

Of course not.

But, this is open source.  Anyone that wants to can edit it to remove the shift, and they can even distribute their changed version.  I don't expect that anyone would actually use it though, for many reasons.
