I was not able to connect to forum.bitcoin.org.

A little investigation showed that for me in the US Midwest, the louhi.net DNS servers that are supposed to be authoritative for bitcoin.org are all timing out.  (They are timing out on non bitcoin.org queries too.)

I got the IP for the forum from a different DNS server than my standard one and hard-coded a hosts entry.

It looks like the attack may be moving to the DNS infrastructure.

The forum IP I'm using is 174.143.149.98.

What does this mean for my client?  Does it need a DNS lookup to grab the blockchain?

If so, anyone know what the actual IP is?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

I routinely ignore posters with paid advertising in their sigs.  You should too.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised...

Only 2 out of 12 OpenDNS caches are still resolving.

No, and there isn't one.

Thanks!  That's what I was hoping since it is peer to peer and I'm still connected.
