Whose idea was it to put a Turing-complete scripting language into a browser, anyways?

Between a handful of technologies -- Javascript injection, Heartbleed SSL compromise, and advanced persistent threats living in firmware -- the goddamn NSA and their various collaborators have absolutely decimated the concept of a global censorship-resistant communications network.

It was a matter of time for powerful coding languages to became browser based.  

You can say that cloud is destroying the Internet too. But it's not.

We can say about many great things that they are bad.  In same time when they are good.

You can say who the hell invited a fire. Fire killed millions of people already.

JavaScript can be dangerous, but it is also a "fun toy" and often useful.
Fortunately, we now have HTML5 to make a new generation of modern, interactive sites.

No, it's not. Any technology can be misused.
All in all, JavaScript is pretty neat and I am damn impressed with what people are building with it these days.

Javascript is fun, its creative and its the first language I learnt.. With the rise of language like html5, I think internet is alright. Javascript has not destroyed the internet, it has helped nurture it at the time when the internet needed some.

Somehow, most webpages use scripts.
I tried using it, but had to disable it when most pages stopped working properly.
Same thing happens with cookies.

Indeed, about 7 to 10 years ago, I would hear "purists" advise disabling Javascript, but these days it is really hard to use many sites without it.
You can try to hide in a dark cave, but life just isn't the same.

Agreed, once upon a time JS wasn't good for very much more than pop up windows and mouseovers.  Now, in the past 15 years it has come such a long way.   It has really made everything much more dynamic.
