A brothel in Salzburg, Austria, is offering free entrance, drinks and sex this summer, as a way to protest what the owner sees as being high taxes.

Brothels are somehow unhealthy, I am uncomfortable with the idea of having sex with a stranger itself, haha. Protests have turned to be less creative and more stupid, trying to get attention lately. Free sex and drinks. If I was there, I'd still not step into such a place. Moreover, I fail to understand how this immature way to protest will work? FUCKING WEIRD.

Why does this have to be considered an immature protest?

The brothel owner is essentially saying he'd rather give his services of sex and booze away for free than subject his customers (and himself) to what he believes are unfairly high taxes. This is tea party type protesting! And the tea party protesting certainly wasn't "Fucking Weird" or "immature".

It sounds like you believe sex with strangers is "fucking weird" but not the protest or this guys discontent with local taxes.

What's really cool is that this stunt is likely getting a ton of press for his cause (one man bitching about taxes) AND a ton of new loyal customers, that will help his business thrive. It's a pretty smart stunt!

I like new ways of protesting, but I'm afraid this will not last long, because the brothel owner has to pay its "workers". That may amount to a lot of money as they may need to work overtime if, as expected, free service, brings a huge "load" of new customers.

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

Yeah I think no way is more effective than this. They don't need to make a demonstration to authority office, so the "party" is most suitable way to them. I am interested to go to Austria lol. Hope get lottery winning and then pack my stuff immediately to there  Grin  I guess the women in Salzburg must take care of their boyfriend and husband then.

That was an interesting article, well in this case I would be more worried of if it sounds too good to be true it probally is but someones going to have to try it.
That said STD Tests may be required if theres a long line.
On the other hand the owner just created a lot of goodwill and will get likely recieve a significant uptick in revenue after the summer ends and their is less things to do in Austria, by attracting a lot more clientelle.

Obsolutely, I am not going to support such things, let they pay tax or not. Their professional itself is not good for any place and it is forbidden in all the aspects of life and religion. This type of professions are the causes for slave industry and human trafficking.

Yeah, we can't deny this profession as one of the oldest job, which it has written in scripture and many ancient documents. Maybe the women couldn't find any decent work for them, so in the end they must chose this job. And, since some of countries have legalized it, we can't say anything. Why? Because government get high taxes from them, so I think the gov won't care about pros and cost with prostitution.

This is certainly not immature, rather a smart business move. The media kisses ass to buy anything regarding sex and this man literally sells it... The press light has shun over his business now and he will be benefited by the attention and also help protest against an important cause.

No, the prohibition of these professions is the cause of the slave industry and human trafficking. History shows prohibition creates more crime. If prostitution is legal, it can be monitored, prostitutes tested, and they are able to call the police for help without fear of being arrested themselves. In areas where it is prohibited they stay in the shadows, where the human trafficking really takes place.

The Austrian government did the right thing to increase the tax. 90% of the clients, and more than 90% of the prostitutes in the Austrian brothels are foreigners. The clients are mostly Turks, Arabs, Albanians, Sub-Saharans.etc, while most of the sex workers are from countries such as Romania. So it is not going to affect the native Austrians.

The problem is city authorities take higher tax year by year from the brothel, and never cracking down illegal prostitution in the city. As a licensed brothel, it's be not fair for them always pay higher tax than any business or industries. So, maybe it's the best way for them to show their protest about it.

Honestly, high taxes on any vice is pretty commonplace.   Most countries charge higher taxes on gambling, cigarettes, and marijuana and prostitution where it is legal.    They know people will pay no matter what the price is so taxes get raised on these things the most.

Obsolutely, I am not going to support such things, let they pay tax or not. Their professional itself is not good for any place and it is forbidden in all the aspects of life and religion. This type of professions are the causes for slave industry and human trafficking.

-It may not be good for any place, but there is no way it will ever go away.  There will always be prostitution, so having it legal provides better health safety and better working conditions for the women.  And I disagree that it is not good.  How is it not good, do you have proof in some way, or do you just think that sex outside the missionary position with married people is icky?

-So, if it is forbidden in YOUR religion, then everyone should have to follow your rules?  I don't think so.  I have some beliefs that you would be very upset at being forced to follow.  This is how other people feel when you force your contrived morality on them.  It is also not forbidden in aspects of life (?).  You may not be aware of it, but lots and lots of people have lots and lots of sex, much of it against the antiquated rules set out by religion.  Money may not be exchanged in most cases but there is plenty of adultery, sodomy (technically any sex not for procreation), and other types of naughtiness going on.  Just because you don't get any doesn't mean that other people should not.

-To the contrary , the illegalization of this industry contributes to the slave industry adn poor treatment of workers.  If everything was on the table and regulated, then it would be more difficult to use slaves for this.  Again we have the case where antiquated religious beliefs end up hurting people because of the refusal to accept reality.  Prostitution will never go away, it will be the last thing to go right after the cockroaches die off.  So you can pretend that it doesn't happen, or you can deal with it in a way that is best for everyone.  I hope that we can stop saying "lalalal LA LA!!!!" with our eyes closed and our fingers in our ears.  You want to stop human trafficing then you need to deal with the problem in reality, not some make believe world where no one has sex.

At least raising the tax rates on gambling, cigarettes, weed and prostitution is better than doing the same on food items, personal income and household appliances. Those who gamble can certainly afford a 10% or 20% rise in tax, but the same can't be said about everyone who is purchasing medicines or groceries from a supermarket.

I'm not saying the prostitution is icky, but I think prostitution is one of the places where you have higher potential to infected by HIV. Yeah you can be very careful about it, and it's okay if brothel owners always check their workers healthy then. But, legal prostitution doesn't mean the sex workers is always free from AIDS, there is always a possibility to get infected. Make sure your condom is not broken everytime you go there.

Yeah it's up to us to follow rules from religion. It just depend on perception of every person. But, I think its not a good thing if you have been married, and what do you think if your wife has known that you ever visited the prostitution. Then it's okay if you is still being single, do whatever we want.

I agree with it. Make something become illegal just force people to break the rules.
