De-centralizing the internet?!

So last night whilst thinking about thishttps://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=109904.0 and then moving onto thoughts of "the internet is not actually de-centralized", led me to researching this morning.

Seems there is a movement beginning to take the internet back into the hands of the community, somewhere along the way we allowed the large corporations to get control of the internet. This is not the way to create a free envirornment. I know about TOR etc, but community owned, ran and built telecoms services and mesh networks have to be the future of a de-centralized internet surely?

Bitcoiners seem like one of the perfect pioneer audiences for this type of strategy.

In the early 90'ies, people were concerned about the commercializing of the internet. If big business moved in, regulation would follow. This has come true to an extent no one imagined. We need a free internet P2P DNS is a way.

The idea behind the FNF is that most end users will probably be using the Freedom box software to connect to the network, act as local ad-hoc mesh nodes and local file servers.

Ah thanks for clarifying. I was not familiar with FNF and only quickly skimmed the FAQ.

Too many govts have their finger in the internet to let another " secure " internet network to come along.

Its already happening with TOR - silent listening nodes which archive encrypted data for later decryption.
