I'm not surprised. Vancouver has been marijuana friendly for a long time, it's more of a surprise that it took this long for legislation like this to come about, but of course politics are an interesting thing. I wonder if this will cause any new growth or just legitimize what's been going on for a long time?

I'd like to see the educational qualifications of this John Walters fellow. And as far as I know, weed is much less harmful, when compared to the other legalized items such as tobacco and alcohol. And regarding carcinogens, I believe that the processed food which is being given out in KFC and McDonald's contain much more cancer causing agents than weed.

Actually I don't support something related to using marijuana, but I found an interesting article about some scientists in Haifa have researched about cannabis that could slow tumor growth. Why dont you support marijuana? Alcohol is much worse and dangerous than weed.
Marijuana is known with its medical effects and its from the nature!

I wonder if Vancouver's proximity to Washington state, which already had legal pot, had anything to do with their decision to legalize and regulate it rather than try to fight the illegal stores operating there. With legal pot so close just over the border, it's probably easier and better for the local economy (and government) to legalize it rather than continue cracking down and watching dollars flow over the border to buy legal weed in Washington.

Weed legalization in Washington and Colorado must have played a part in this decision. Also, Vancouver is the most liberal of the major Canadian cities, and it is the Bitcoin capital of North America. I just hope that the weed sellers in Vancouver might become interested in accepting BTC as a mode of payment, as so many Bitcoin ventures are coming up in the city and the surroundings.

What makes Vancouver the 'bitcoin capital of North America?' Number of businesses that accept?

I don't know much about the current situation, but in 2013 and 2014, Vancouver was the world-wide leader in Bitcoin adoption. The first Bitcoin ATM in the world was opened in Vancouver, and as far as I know, Vancouver is still the city with the maximum number of Bitcoin ATMs in the world. There are dozens of businesses which accepts BTC in Vancouver including coffee shops and restaurants (Sweet Tooth Café, India Gate, Lost + Found Café, The Wilder Snail.etc), Hardware (Free Geek Vancouver), Marijuana seeds (MJ Seeds Canada), Real Estate (Quantum Properties), Bullion coins and bars (Quadriga CX), tattoo artists (The Fall).etc.
