I came across this guy a little while ago and don't really know what to make of him.

http://larouchepac.com/

I'm not promoting or opposing him, just need a 'sanity check' Cheesy

My impression thus far:

He seems like a gentlemanly old geezer who never got the memo about the Cold War ending. Always harping on about the possibility of a thermonuclear war erupting between the big three (Russia, China, and USA). He seems so opposed to Obama, you'd think it was old-fashioned racism or prejudice. However, he also seems well educated and claims to base his opinions on Obama's track record and facts on the ground.

He's convinced that a war with Iran would lead to a devastating nuclear conflict, and basically "the end of humanity" and all that. Apparently all the chess pieces are slowly coming together with the US encircling Russia and China and preparing for a giant conflict, using the Middle East as the starting point. However, unlike all the youtube "crazies" who are easily dismissed as conspiracy nutters, he's an elderly statesman who apparently ran for the US presidential office a number of times. Hence my confusion.

What do you people all think? Surely it's not that bad? I don't want to start stockpiling canned food and dust masks just because a paranoid guy managed to spread fear!

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

LaRouche is controlled opposition. He's being funded by the Feds and in turn, his group gathers intel on radicals, upstarts and others.

My advice is to stay away but make up your own mind.

Similar labels could apply to Ron Paul though, right? I guess any opposition could be called controlled, as long as it's being watched. I wonder how many times an alphabet agency secretly intervened to protect Bitcoin because they considered it an 'asset' of theirs.

Ron isn't but his organization (Benton) became controlled opposition for the GOP. I lost faith in ol' Ron when he allowed people like Benton to stick around.

I came across this guy a little while ago and don't really know what to make of him.

For decades nobody has known what to make of LaRouche.

At various times he has worked for The Left, The Right, The Feds, religious nuts, communists, got funding from the Rockefeller Foundation, ...you name it.

If you dig deep, you can find him saying the exact opposite thing from what he said years earlier, then swapping back again years later to what he said earlier!  It's bizarre.

Most people just give up and ignore him.  That's what I did.

I'm a terrible judge of that because I tend to get swept along with "mass sentiment" myself.

I empathize because I did that for thirty years.

In 1984 I was busy building a bug-out shelter because my economics classes at university had convinced me the staggering U.S. national debt of an incredible 1.7 Trillion Dollars was unsustainable for even two more years.

Japan would repossess the U.S.  The Savings & Loan failures would collapse the economy.  General Motors would cease to exist.  The Soviets would roll across Europe.  Farmer suicides of the time would leave us starving.

After thirty years of rotating food, scanning RSS feeds that the first signs, and frightening my parents, I've decided to stop worrying such much about collapse.

Thank God! Another old fart is here!

The "OMG! THE WORLD IS ENDING!" line of thought has been around for 2000 years. We all get swept up in it sometimes.

To the OP, serious biz: LaRouche is planted, controlled opposition. He says some truthful things in order to get honest people thinking the rest of his crap is real, too. It's an old trick.

It is unsustainable. The 1983 amendments to Social Security allowed the federal government to consume the savings of the Baby Boomers, which provided a brief (by historical standards) reprieve.

Meh.

If war comes, it comes.  If it does not, then I'll keep on living.

I am not going to live in paranoia every day.  That's no way to live life.

It is unsustainable.

What are you referring to as unsustainable?

I just got off the phone with one of LaRouche's callers.  I definitely think they are controlled opposition.  The guy on the phone told me Bitcoin was propaganda and that stacking precious metals was a waste of time because they're coming out with technology that can essentially create gold and silver atomically.  I'm sure at some point that will happen but I doubt it's going to be any time this decade.  More importantly, the fact that he considered Bitcoin to be propaganda raised a big red flag.  These guys, in my opinion, are one step below Fox News.  They scream and cry about how Obama needs to be impeached as if getting rid of the front guy is going to change anything.  I wouldn't doubt if half the reason for their telephone conferences are to keep people plugged into them rather than spending their energy productively and creating change on their own, for example by spending their time and energy building the new crypto-economy.  I don't think any real change will ever come from this group and I think it's designed that way

Whatever you do, DO NOT engage in political conversations w/ these people as they will waste your time and try to steer you to read one of LaRouches periodicals that just muddy the waters and don't actually solve anything. Typically, these guys lean socialist in a unique way but they will try to come off as reasonable by discussing at length with you anything you want when they meet you. Then, they will build a little buddyship w/ you even when you don't agree on something and they will try to get your contact info and call you and waste your time some more. You may think you're going to crack their shell and teach them something but you're wasting your time. For instance, I showed up to a town hall meeting by the former Mayor of Manchester, NH (who was running for Congress) and I ran into this kid protesting (similar to my age) and he noticed I was carrying a firearm to which he struck up a conversation over that and Obamacare. He became a lefty nit-picker but I just kept engaging him until the meeting started and made the mistake of giving him my phone number. Dude kept calling periodically trying to see if I read this little homework assignment he gave and I ended up saying I didn't have time to waste on someone that wasn't into understanding and promoting liberty candidates. So, steer clear of these moonbats.

I am neither a LaRouche follower or a Fox news watcher and I think Obama needs to be impeached. He doesn't represent any ideology, he represents unrestrained federal power.

What do you people all think?

I learned about the "LaRouche movement" when I was living in Dresden. The BüSo is his party in Germany. They are like a sect that will die when LaRouche and his wife resign.

They are in my opinion nuts and I wouldn´t give sh** on what they say. I once spoke with one of their followers at their booth in the citycenter. They were promoting one of the big-promise-project LaRouche talked about (I think they modified it now, but still the same nonsense), the Eurasian bridge, a project where they wanted to invest billions over billiosn to build high speed tracks from Vladivostok till Lisboa. When I asked how they want to pay for it, she said "We will print the money" Smiley

Also have a really simplistic approach to reality. To me LaRouche is a boulevard politian and Guru that makes money by selling endtime scenarios (and sometimes that sells like hit cake).

But yeah, make up your own mind.
