Toolbar doesn't work

I've had this problem since 0.6.0 that the toolbar doesn't show up at the top of my screen with Bitcoin.

I run Ubuntu 12.04.

Also, every time I upgrade to a new version of Bitcoin(currently running 0.7.0) I never know how to check which version is running. I'd like to just go up to help and see which version is running, to make sure my upgrades went well, but I can't. Is there a command I can use in the terminal to find out which version I have running?

Minimize your Bitcoin screen and when you bring it back your toolbar will show up (appears to be a bug in Ubuntu).

When you have your toolbar, click on Help-->Debug Wallet-->Information (also Console available for your Terminal commands since you appear to like commands!).

Try updating to 0.7.0, it seems to have been fixed here.

That's another thing. I seem to be too inept to upgrade properly. I've downloaded the tar, and extracted it. But I don't know what to do now. Is there a certain place I was suppose to extract it to? And how do I make my unity icon launcher for Bitcoin load the newest version?

Okay, nevermind. I upgraded correctly. But my toolbar still doesn't work. And no, minimizing doesn't work. Any other suggestions?

If you have a folder  'bitcoin-0.7.0-linux'  that means that you have successfully downloaded and extracted the 0.7 version. Click on that folder -->bin-->32 (or 64 if yours is 64)-->bitcoin-qt
Voila: clicking on bitcoin-qt will start bitcoin.

To put an icon on the Desktop:
' sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends gnome-panel '
and then: 
'  gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/Desktop/ --create-new '

In the poppup you have to name the new folder (I suppose Bitcoin) and enter the command on the proper line which is the path to your   folder -->bin-->32 (or 64 if yours is 64)-->bitcoin-qt

And Daily one , minimizing to the side launcher and bringing it back should also work. When you bring it back you have to move the cursor all the way to the top and you can chose from 'Files , Settings and Help' .

Thanks for the help, but I just upgraded from the Synaptic Package Manager. Still, minimizing and reopening Bitcoin doesn't bring up the toolbar. Yes, I take my cursor to the very top, and still nothing.

but I just upgraded from the Synaptic Package Manager.

I was curious and looked up Synaptic which shows that it has ' bitcoind 0.3.24.. ' for download.  It also has Electrum but no other Bitcoin.

So I don't understand it, and hope that you'll solve your problem eventually.
