Wow Matthew, so aggressive.. I decided not to argue with you any longer. I don't like these style of conversation. Sorry.

Be sportsman. We'll end up with nobody using any app. Have the people decide which Facebook App they like more:

bitcoin-app.com

or

http://apps.facebook.com/yougotcoin/

Sorry Matthew, I pressed the "Ignore" button now.

How do the apps work? Do they both hold onto all the private keys to all the addresses? Or do something like blockchain.info/solidcoin?

It would be cool if somehow they used a password to generate the keys and used the password to re-generate the keys to sign a tx message so not even the facebook app could run with all the BTC.

*Next Draw Feb 1*  BitLotto: monthly raffle (0.25 BTC per ticket) Completely transparent and impossible to manipulate who wins. TOR

Guys, there already exists a much better one.

I've been using it for about a month.

http://apps.facebook.com/yougotcoin/

That is scalable, Matthew. This needs its own thread of which the developers should start.

~Bruno~

Agreed. I'll get them to make a thread. They were just going to advertise it in the magazine but that's a tad late ^_-

Sorry Matthew, I pressed the "Ignore" button know.

bitcoin-app.com uses the original bitcoin client and no special tricks.

Sounds like a nice idea bitlotto. But actually the whole authentication procedure is entirely handled by Facebook and I have no access to the passwords or their hashes.

I wouldn't trust a closed source application that relies upon a proprietary platform to handle bitcoin. Especially a platform obsessed with acquiring as much personal information as possible.

Bitcoin combines money, the wrongest thing in the world, with software, the easiest thing in the world to get wrong.

Yougotcoin app on facebook is a scam...

*image*

From the amount of times I've seen people call things scams in this community, I think scam has lost its meaning..

No, it's not a scam. The 3rd party hosted and backed up cloud wallet provider transitioned their infrastructure, and totally Fubar'd on the uptime. The application itself was having difficulty for a few hours in connecting to the main wallet, and we're adding a hot standby in case it happens in the future.

I should also mention I really was surprised to see that the application already has over 120 users now.

Wigglyuk: I'm sorry the application was temporary non-functional, and I worked to remedy it as quickly as possible. I assure you that You Got Coin is not a scam, and I'd further like to say that we never intended for You Got Coin to be anyone's main wallet, but instead a simple way to send Bitcoin to your Facebook friends, and as a backup for small amounts of easily accessible Bitcoin.

Regards,
Jonathan

[EDIT] The error message you see "aww" has been replaced with actual debugging information. One of the developers apparently forgot to remove that silly bug message from final code.

By an error or your own modification of the page's contents, it is not important why the screen shot shows a negative balance. What is important is that you already spent your Bitcoin balance before lying about the app being a scam.

Since Trudi has already shown that spamming and deception are how he gets people to try his app, it would not surprise me in the slightest if you were a friend or sockpuppet trying to make YouGotCoin look bad.

I'll be watching you both from this point on.

Yougotcoin app on facebook is a scam...

Am I the only one who laughed at the idea of somebody hacking a Bitcoin account for .039 Bitcents then leaving an "awe" message?

The Communists say, equal labour entitles man to equal enjoyment. No, equal labour does not entitle you to it, but equal enjoyment alone entitles you to equal enjoyment. Enjoy, then you are entitled to enjoyment. But, if you have laboured and let the enjoyment be taken from you, then – ‘it serves you right.’ If you take the enjoyment, it is your right.

I seem to have jump the gun on this one, my balanced returned after a day and my balance was back to normal. The negitive balance did frieghten me though and I see that it has happened again today but returned within a few hours. I will confirm that YouGotCoin App on Facebook is NOT a scam. Sorry for the Libel.

I guess you could say I'm scamming the multiple Free bitcents-a-day site by farming a steady flow of bitcents per month... but I did not send my .2 accumulation of bitcents anywhere, it should be in the YouGotCoin app, the second I saw it was missing I cried wolf; again I apologize for the Libel.

Aside from the occasional negatie balances, YouGotCoin is a solid app and is likely to convert the facebook kin into bitcoin users.

Facebook app "Got Coin" is an excellent app especially as it's a faucet as well.  I got one girl interested in it and now she got all her mates using the app and bitcoin for the first time.  It's a very good way to spread the concept of bitcoin to new users as you can send BTC to any of your FB friends for free.  It should be developed more so you can use it as your main wallet and the app should have its own thread.

gnah!

a facebook wallet is cool cause it allows free transactions between facebook users outside the blockchain. Consequently your transactions will not show up in blockexplorer "as expected" but your depositing address will be "charged at random". This is built into bitcoind behaviour and Mathew you should know by now that that is not a sign of scam.

Sending to Facebook IDs is also very convenient for users as they see their friend's face when sending.

Fees should only apply when sending to a bitcoin address. (My concern was that if I grant every user to send single Satoshis to friends, these friends will scream "SCAM" when I charge them 1000000Satoshi for sending their belongings out.)

I have a facebook app for bitcoin, too but did not dare to expose it to a wider audience. It's simple. Just a frontend to bitcoind with the facebook uid for the account. super slow but it works.

https://bitcoin-app.com/ is UUUGLY as hell.

https://apps.facebook.com/yougotcoin/ is broken (plain white).

I will not use a hosted wallet where I don't trust the ones standing behind it. Ultimately I see it the job of some exchange to launch such an app. It can be done in one week of work to get far better than bitcoin-app. I would see it as a valuable investment in the future of bitcoin. Yes, facebook will ban it despite the fact it is not against anything I found in their TOS. The one doing the app should have a concept of continuing operations outside of facebook. Well done, this app could reach millions in a month and we could document how facebook destroyed a success story without a good reason and offer the more secure alternatives to the doubled user base.
