There is a discussion here about what the three-letter currency code will be when the decimal point moves so that 1 BTC becomes 1e-6 BTC.

There are mixed opinions (as there should be), so I decided to make a poll to get a sense of what the majority of us prefers.

I think keeping BTC would be best. As someone said in the discussion thread it will cause some confusion for a week but be preferable in the long run.

Keep BTC, but create a view in the client to set preferences and show Both BTc/UBC, or either.

Any transfers can be shown in both, and the entry box can cofirm the amount to prevent mistakes.

So if someone prepares a transfer, it will show "Sending 3.00000 BTC / 3000.00 UBC to '1WXaX3xz....'

Cusipzzz: I'm pretty sure he means either use UBC or change how many bitcoins 1 BTC equals. So there would be no such thing as UBC.

It's too early to tell.
If the demand on Bitcoins is high then UBC would be better, but if the demand is low then BTC is better.

I want UBC. That way, 1 BTC will still mean 1 BTC, it will just be that 1 BTC = 1 000 000 UBC

Bitcoin is still in its infancy. It won't be so hard to convert from old BTC to new BTC. I don't think anyone will be confused about the cost of a transaction, we all would notice if the cost is off by a factor of a million and ask for clarification.

But we should have a consensus agreement to refer to them as "new Bitcoins" for a month or two.

Do not waste your time debating whether Bitcoin can work. It does work.

"Early adopters will profit" is not a sufficient condition to classify something as a pyramid or Ponzi scheme. If it was, Apple and Microsoft stock are Ponzi schemes.

There is no such thing as "market manipulation." There is only buying and selling.

Using BTC is a good way to confuse anyone trying to study the history of bitcoins, as without dates on many transactions and such, how will they know whether it is new or old BTC?

UBC is much clearer and doesn't rename a fundamental part of the bitcoin client.

Most of the world hasn't discovered bitcoin yet, let's make the decimal shift NOW and keep BTC.  The early adopters are smart enough to not be confused by this I IMO.

yeah this happens with stock all the time people don't get confused. Best make the change now. Prices will always be quoted in whatever we call the smaller denomination. Might as well make that thing be bitcoin. It will be more confusing if there is this extra UBC thing floating around. People will constantly ask "well what is a bitcoin then?" "oh that isn't used anymore" huh?

I doubt that is a problem, having two different BTCs is far bigger of an issue.
