I hoped there would be a voting option in this section, but apparently not to us mere mortal.
There is a voting option. You can either add a poll to an existing thread by clicking the "add poll" link on the bottom right hand corner of the thread or create a new thread with a poll by clicking the "post new poll" option rather than the "new topic" option when first creating a thread.
During my time in crypto, here and other places, I've seen bitcointalk.org refered to as both BTT and BCT. A tendency I think I noticed is that veterans use BTT more often than newbie.
What is the proper abbreviation for bitcointalk?
Please motivate and, if possible offer data to support your claim.
Thank you!
I've always gone with "BCT" (BitCoinTalk) myself but like you, I've seen it being referred to "BTT" (BiTcoinTalk?) many times too. A Google search for 'site:bitcointalk.org BCT' returns 11,600 results whereas 'site:bitcointalk.org BTT' returns only 7,780 so "BCT" seems to be the slightly more popular of the two.
Theymos owns the forums so whatever he uses is probably the closest thing to get an "official" answer that you can get. Satoshi would have been even better since he created the forums but after going through Satoshi's old posts, I couldn't find anything.
Anyway, I doubt either of them has any strong opinions about it and they probably just use whatever they feel more comfortable with.
A search for the terms "BCT" and "BTT" on the forums from January 2009 to the end of 2011 doesn't show up anything interesting. Neither does the official Bitcointalk Twitter account or theymos' posts on Reddit.
EDIT: OK, so this is the closest thing I could find to an "official" endorsement by theymos. Here, he suggests that those who place ads on his forum should append their URL with "something like "?bct"" to track clicks:
Because the forum is HTTPS, you will not receive any referrer info from clicks! If you want to track forum clicks, put something like "?bct" at the end of your URL, and look for that in your access logs.
