In relation to bitcoin miners where I pretty much know what's good or bad, I have very little knowledge of scrypt (and litecoin).

If I were to invest up till $10,000 for mining scrypt with free power, what should I get and why? Please factor in maintenance: I want to mess with miners as little as possible.

Thank you!

personally i would get a couple of a2 terminators, but diversification is best. cloud mining is also a viable option Smiley

Is ASIC mining gear still available? For either algorithm, SHA256 or Scrypt?

I had the impression the manufacturers just sold a few to the masses to cover their startup costs then moved to keeping all the hardware themselves to mine for themselves or rent out hashpower or both?

you can still find some first hand miners. second is always cheaper, but i believe you are right, although Antminer seems to be focused on retail

Free power? Alchemist 256mh, like 7 of them. They're stable and reliable and about $1.2k per if you're lucky.

They don't have stock right now, but they did make this offer over on the litecointalk form.

https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=24945.msg274614#msg274614

I've have purchased units directly from them, using bitcoin.  They arrived in 3 days as promised.  So there's that...

They're on eBay too. You may see some good deals with a hot summer afoot as they're power hungry. But with LTC on a consistent rise, it may be tough to get a handful of them at a competitive price from third parties. I hope you get what you're looking for!

EDIT We may be willing to get rid of A Titan, pm me if you're interested. but I'm thinking you won't like the asking price:D

Ya man, people that had paid off scrypt ASICs running are doing very well right now...
And every ASIC I bought 12 months ago is still running (100 MH of Gridseeds and Zeus) = amazing.

But best bet is local listings like kijiji in Canada... but you MUST have free power.

And you MUST trade, not just dump the coins...
For the coins I mine, I trade at least 10-20 times mining volume...
As time goes by you get better and better at mining/trading the most profitable coins.

Titan's are the stuff right now with the recent LTC rise.  They are hard to find now though, as they aren't produced any more.  Luckily I got a used batch 1 and a brand new batch 2 at a decent price a few months ago.  So I am loving the price rise the past couple of weeks.  I would try to find someone willing to sell theirs at a decent price, although that will probably not be easy to do now.  It would take a hefty offer for me to part with my two.

If you have free power, then the Alcheminer would be a good option for sure and definitely easier to find.

The A2 Terminators are very reliable and efficient (although not as efficient as the Titans).  You can still find these units for under $1k @ 110Mh/s (around 850 watts).

I have a bunch of them with no issues.  Built in PSU and Raspberry Pi.  Self contained unit.
