Sub-Saharan Africa is the most expensive region to send money to according to the World Bank, with high transactions costs eating into billions of dollars that could otherwise go to recipients in the continent. But local businesses are attempting to disrupt the remittance market using technologies like digital currency Bitcoin.

Wow... BitPesa is doing a great job... I wonder if it is all the women in the business that is driving such aggressive growth or if it is because the people are already familiar with M-pesa?

The remittance market in these countries have the biggest potential for growth in Bitcoin and BitPesa is turning the trend away from market leaders like WU and MoneyGram.

Good luck with the expansion into the other African countries and keep up the good work.  Wink

I've long been hoping for the bitcoin to mature up the remittance markets around the world so it's a pleasure seeing the growth by BitPesa month over month. Still, plenty more work to do before we even take a small portion of the overall market.

This info graphic argues that Bitcoin does almost as much daily transaction volume as discover!

I'd say Bitcoin has "taken over a small portion of the market"

Coinbase for selling BTCs
