I use electrum for my day to day transactions, well tonight I tried to send some coin and electrum froze up for a good 2 minutes. I did a force quit and relaunched then went about the transactions I was going to make. After what should of been a few confirmations I had nill so I checked my history... I sent one transaction twice and a few small ones that amount to more coin than I have available. So here I am with 8 blocks since my fail and 0 confirmations on anything. I've never done this before and would really like to know, while I am sure it is unknown, how long my coin could be possibly lost in space.

Thanks for reading. This should be interesting.

Is it not possible to use the recover function in the eletcrum wallet? Might fix the problem if you are lucky.

Does Electrum have the -repairwallet command?
IF it does you can run that and see how it goes, but remember to backup your wallet before you try anything.
Just to be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry Wink

First thing I would do is to know whether those transactions appear on the mempool. Use these blockexplorers to view your addresses and transactions ids:
https://blockchain.info
https://btc.blockr.io

If you can see your problematic transactions on the blockexplorers, you need to wait for them to confirm or disappear. If they are not there, backup your wallet file and restore your electrum wallet from seed and create the transactions again.

Your wallet is called "default_wallet", should be found here:
\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Local\Electrum\Wallet

You can view your wallet seed by clicking:
Menu | Wallet | Seed (then enter your password)

If you restore from seed, you will loose all the keys for those addresses not generated by Electrum: Those extra private keys you imported yourself. So backup your wallet!

The unconfirmed transactions will disappear after a few days. The network will "forget" them and you can essentially double spend the transactions. If you look up the transactions in a block explorer, you can see whether your transactions are confirmed or not.

Thanks for the reply's!

On blockchain.info they don't exist however on btc.blockr.io and blocktrail.com they are unconfirmed transactions. My wallet is backed up. I guess I will wait for a few days and see what happens.

Question, did you also put some fees in there? Maybe you haven't put anything in the fees, another reason why the network takes longer time to confirm your transaction. Just a thought. I could be wrong, though.

It might not be proporgated that well and some nodes may have not relayed it. If electrum doesn't rebroadcast it, it would get dropped after a few days. If it does, you would have to wait for it to confirm. You can attempt a "double spend" after majority of the node's mempool drops your transaction and the nodes would relay the newly crafted as the output isn't appeared as spent in their mempool. Could you also post the TXID in question?

How much time you get the confirmation and the transaction is verified? Are you used fees? How much?
Actually i'm still skeptic to make a transaction Embarrassed

Probably quite awhile, because at this moment there are 50,000 and counting unconfirmed transactions, the blocksize needs to be increased.

Remember Aaron Swartz, a 26 year old computer scientist who died defending the free flow of information.
