I think that it's a good idea to add a Filipino forum Smiley
Dedicated sub-sections help a lot on the growing of bitcoin communities around the world.
It helps connect more easily people to arrange business and projects.

Every new well-established Bitcoin community will also help all other nearby and connected communities.

Finally, a sub-forum dedicated to the Filipinos to flock in and discuss ideas! If in case there would be one, I'd be glad to translate the rules of bitcointalk into our own language (actually, I've started earlier before I went to bed).

Germany, Netherlands and India don't have English as the official language of their country.

The Philippines is by law an English speaking nation.

Also in contrast is that any literate Filipino speaks English, not so true in Germany, Netherlands or India.

There is no need for a "Philippine Sub Form".

If there's that much of a user base, start your own Pinoy Altcoin Forum on another domain.

~BCX~

First of all , me for instance have been into many countries in asia already and the very first time I visited india, I had to explore different places and even tried some less blessed places and I was surprised that a poor kid understood my english really well and answered me in english really good too so base on what your saying I may have to disagree with you on that plus just because some are literate doesn't mean they would understand the bitcoin world in english, there's still the need to use our mother language in order to perfect the delivery of each part of explaining bitcoin in general

Secondly were after bitcoin not Altcoin

And for the third, we need to have the ability to have our own sub-forum due to large user base awaiting to get notified of and also in order to have a more organized topics and conversations which at the moment its anything except organized

Best Regards
~SFR~

Exactly, SFR10. We are not after altcoins but bitcoin itself. We can create our own forum if we wanted to, but that would probably be not as effective as what we have right now in bitcointalk where in most people already are in.

I take it you do not speak Tagalog. If you did you would see that a very large majority of the discussion is on alts, pozis, sig campaigns with very little discussion on Bitcoin itself.

I am not sure if there are 'that' many discussions about alt coins, but I agree a large part of the posts is about earning bitcoin (mostly sig campaigns) and unfortunately also ponzis. That being said, if you look at the Bitcoin PH FB group, you can also see there are plenty of people seriously interested in bitcoin, having in-depth discussions about it and organizing bitcoin-related events in PH. Still, there is plenty of spam on FB about faucets/referrals/etc. - but at the FB group that just gets deleted. So some rules and moderation would be required in a new subforum, yes. I think that's the case for any local subforum.

Currently, because a lot of the posts in the Filipino thread are about a specific part of bitcoin (let's call it "earning bitcins"), it can discourage other people to post about other subjects, like "using bitcoin as remittance". You could post about it, get a reply or two, but it would be hidden through the pages rather quickly. That is exactly the reason why I think a new subforum would be great (or: why I want it personally.) It allows different discussions more easily.

In addition I do think that Filipinos can sometimes have the need to talk in their native language. As a Dutch, I do like talking in Dutch sometimes, even though I use English much more than Dutch. STILL I think it is not a problem to have English discussions in a Filipino subforum either, especially if it's about specific events, meetings and subjects relevant to only the Philippines.

Personally I see it like this:
- Keep the "Pilipinas" topic in the subforum as sticky and allow any kind of discussion in there (but obv not insane spamming.) Just for quick-questions, off-topic things, etc.
- English/Tagalog topics/replies both fine.
- I hope there will be 1 Cebu topic with Cebuano language, depending if the ppl from Cebu want that. Or just a Bisaya topic. This all depends if there is a need for it.
- Referral links, especially to micro earning sites (faucets) and "invest sites" (ponzi scams) should be not allowed, but discussion of it somewhat tolerated in original "Pilipinas" topic, just like now. Just to protect the subforum against spam. It is the same rule as Bitcoin PH FB group and I assume other local subforums have this too (perhaps unofficially.)

I really think it will be great, and equal (or more) activity compared to other local subforums. I also think there will be more different subjects for discussions than the current topic, which IMO will lead to more Filipinos/expats/companies joining the discussions too.

In the end I also think it will not hurt anyone (most can just ignore the whole board Tongue) especially if there is decent moderation. I agree there should be enough activity to justify a subforum for it, but I think there is and will be enough.

I agree to the FB part in which there are some serious discussions about bitcoin developments, though it is not wholly reflected on this form as some Filipino members of this forum are interested on either ponzis or signature campaigns alone. Good moderation would probably help arrange the clutter of these kind of discussions, and potentially increasing the interest of Filipino people in bitcoin if there exist a sub-forum dedicated to them to freely discuss bitcoin and other bitcoin-related stuff.

No one said they were spamming, the point is a forum is not needed due to the ability for a large majority of Filipinos speak English as it is the official language of business by law in their country.

A Philippine sub-forum is not needed.

Did you say official? Seriously its commonly used for business because theres people outside the ph involves in it and they cant speak tagalog. For my 22 years of living in ph i cant remember that ive heard a word such "official" declared to english as pilipino language for business.

But you got a point for most businesses english knowledge is a must for higher carrier like a lawyer, a call center agent etc but not for a pilipino selling on street the balut and any other small businesses. They dont speak english

I don't even know where or what is your reference of saying that. Are you sure that majority of all people in 7,107 island of Philippines can speak English? If you can prove this Im with you but GOODLUCK.

not all Filipinos can speak and understand English very well. but ok lets say we can all speak and understand English but the purpose of the subforum we are requesting is to have clean threads/section for our discussion such as for mining, buying and selling bitcoins etc. how can we have discussion over those things if in just few minutes there are already several posts/pages added with different topics?

400.000 page views from 250.000 just 7 weeks ago, and still not a section on its own...  Undecided
And up to over 450.000 views; up 50.000 (>10%) in just 10 days...

There have been whole sections (like Hebrew for instance) that have not been posted in this entire period...

Can the Philippines PLEASE get their own sub-section? Pretty please?!?
And another 50.000 extra views in just over 10 days...

Over 500.000 page views, HALF a MILLION views...

There are subsections getting moderators appointed with FAR less activity...

Please, can the Philippines get their own sub-section Huh

Hoppa! And just another couple of weeks and the number hit 600.000!!!

Most sub-fora I'm active in (Croatian, Dutch, Serbian) are not even close to that kind of activity...

Strange this group has not got it's own sub-forum yet...

But you got a point for most businesses english knowledge is a must for higher carrier like a lawyer, a call center agent etc but not for a pilipino selling on street the balut and any other small businesses. They dont speak english

Amazing, there lots of things you foreigners don't know about the Philippines.

In 1987 after the Ferdinand Marcos era it was Amended to the Philippine Constitution.

Article XIV, Section 7 straight from the Philippine Gov site.

Additionally it was also coded into law the first time in 1935 during the second revision of the Philippine Constitution.

I quote:
Quote
Section 6. The national language of the Philippines is Filipino. As it evolves, it shall be further developed and enriched on the basis of existing Philippine and other languages.

Subject to provisions of law and as the Congress may deem appropriate, the Government shall take steps to initiate and sustain the use of Filipino as a medium of official communication and as language of instruction in the educational system.

Section 7. For purposes of communication and instruction, the official languages of the Philippines are Filipino and, until otherwise provided by law, English.

You see, we Filipinos' values our own national language and thus the need to use our own language we continue the urge for everyone in here to allow us to have a sub forum where every communication that will revolve around us Pilipinos' will be in tagalog.

Poor Nanay couldn't afford to send him to primary school.

It's not his fault.
