I thought it was harder to make but since you have to download a bunch of stuff it seems to me that its pretty vulnerable to some attacks, opinions?

It's vulnerable at different stages.

The latest I heard about was a gateway hack focusing on paper wallets. As far as I understood the hacker will install software that waits for the right information (keylogs it I guess?) and then takes the btc. The weakness of a paperwallet is that it still needs to be imported to a computer to be used etc. That moment is the new window of attack as I understand it. So even a correctly off-line created paperwallet etc is vulnerable. Only way to keep it not vulnerable would be to never spend it. But I might have misunderstood how this would work because I picked this up in a social conversation at a bitcoin meetup in my city.

The safest way to make a paper wallet would be to use a live (USB boot) version of Linux offline, load up a saved version of Bitaddress and then create your paper wallets from there. For some extra security, you could BIP38 encrypt them as well, so you'd need a password before you can move any funds.

So you go there, create the paper wallet address and then you need to print it and after that, there you go, you have a secure paper wallet?? And theres no possible way for someone to have it besides stealing it physically ?

Like I said earlier, don't create addresses online. If you want to use the above generator, download https://github.com/cantonbecker/bitcoinpaperwallet and use it offline.

FYI: This is a fork of Bitaddress.org except it has a few GUI features especially images.

It is advisable to use bitaddress.org offline when creating a paper wallet to minimize the risks of having the copy of your paper wallet to be broadcasted in the internet.

Every user has their own preferences when it comes to service. I find bitaddress.org easier to use than blockchain.info so that's why I pointed it out. Also, MZ also pointed out on using bitaddress.org. Smiley

Its not about the website, its about someone that could have access to your computer with some kind of keyloggers that could detect when you are into that specific website and pretty much record everything that happens in your computer so they would know your password pretty much, even offline could still happen

Yeah I do the same, but understand that bitcoin cannot take off with such convoluted procedures, and then having to hide pieces of paper around the house and under the mattress.

Thank you, always with the best links Mr. LTC guy!  I never saw that device before, and I wonder how secure it is, but it looks like a great way to make multiple paper wallets really easy.

thank you , that was pretty easy!

But it's really hard to keep a paper wallet safe for long , so it's better you get it laminated and paste a sticker on top

Wait what? What do you mean? I thought paper wallets were pretty safe and the only way for you to get ''hacked'' would be for the hacker to steal physically the paper or somehow look at it, right?

He meant that papers can easily be destroyed/damaged, so its better to do something to prevent it.

Of course but you can make copies and/or store them in safes or wherever you feel they will be safe and leaving only 1 option for someone who wants to steal your money, stealing it physically and i consider that way safer than having them in exchanges and wallets too
