According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

for btcguild (its the same for all pools)
1. DOWNLOAD A MINER!
2. make a .bat file where the miner is installed
3. put this into the .bat file:
phoenix.exe -u http://worker_name:worker_password@btcguild.com:8332/ -k poclbm DEVICE=1

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
