https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0reason: signing messages have become a necessity so that thread is very useful. also making it a sticky might reduce the number of people asking "what is a signed message?". that kind of question leads to another post(s) referring to that thread. I don't see any reason not to make it a sticky. btw for those who didn't know and didn't bother to check that thread. it's not mine. it's shorena's

This is definitely a yes. I never found that thread prior to me signing my first message. It was pretty hard as the information that I found on Google seemed to be unnecessarily complicated and I had to ask for help. Also after learning how to do so, several people have asked me to help them sign messages as they had no idea how to even start.

I added the linked thread to the Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ. Maybe it'll help.

Questions about that topic come up very often lately though it was all the time a topic where bitcoiners had to explain for newbies. Making the thread sticky might lower the amount of requests and bitcoiners can know the thread and link fast too.
Anyway... i voted yes.

I voted yes because everyone should know how to do that and it should be easy to find.

Definitly yes and no doubt about it . It could be more then useful to get the thread sticked , we can prevent some spam on the future .

It's in the rules list now so we don't need another sticky thread about that.

Just see another newbie asking for signing message here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1113732. So this is easy for people making duplicate posts (like me ) and potentially make BTC from signature. So sticking that thread is starting to be important now or more and more spams will appear.

Count my vote to +1 for this. I think it should be made sticky because each day we saw a new thread by a newbie or other member asking this question.

Definitley yes! Why not! Signing a message is a required skill for any bitcoiner. It proves their ownership of that address and forum account.

I want it to be a sticky thread but in the relevant sections. As of now, there is a necessity of it being stickied not only in Meta (for hacked accounts) but also the digital goods section where the accounts are sold. Also, I guess we already have 5 sticky threads and hence why can't we have a section where all the important threads find a place. It sometimes gets too clustered to have over 5-6 stickies in 1 particular section and especially since this is a Meta section, there needs to be a section for these important threads.

Yeah, I think it would be better to have one centralized thread that links to all the important threads, instead of too many stickies that people will just skim over.

can't you or theymos edit the HELP page and make a list there? I think most people that go there also expects to see the forum's rules. tho it might look out of place with all that smf user help stuff.
