Bitcoin Core, Win7, BSOD

So I've been installing Bitcoin Core v0.10.2 for over a week now on a 2Ghz AMD system having 4G ram and 1TB drivespace with Win7 Pro.  I've had to shut down repeatedly for BSOD failures.  It presently is installing but slowly after putting the Bitcoin Core into Win7 compatibility mode.  Is it running slowly, compared to non-compatibility mode, because of what's described in this article?  http://blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing/archive/2015/07/09/10624293.aspx

You've been installing for over a week? I fail to understand what you're trying to say here. Installing the software should be very quickly. Are you trying to synchronize the blockchain?
What makes you think that the BSOD errors are related to Bitcoin Core?

The first step to solving your situation would be to understand it. To do that I need to take a look at minidumps.

Putting Bitcoin Core into Win7 compatibility mode fixed it.  Blockchain up to day.

This probably doesn't have much to do with this problem, but I am running Bitcoin Core on a laptop with 8GB of ram and Windows 8.1 OS. It took me 6 days to install the software. I mean that program installed quickly, but it took 6 days for it to complete synchronization. During this period of time, the so call "Stress Test" was going on and in my opinion had a lot to do with the slow synchronization. Doesn't ad much to this problem, but though you would appreciate the info. The version was 0.10.2 and running v0.11.

I mean that program installed quickly, but it took 6 days for it to complete synchronization. It is quite unusual for it to take 6 days. Recent software should sync much faster than this. Actually syncing is mostly dependent on your internet connection and your HDD/SSD speeds (overall stronger PC configuration helps) as far as I know. I don't think that the stress test would cause this as within that time I had no problems nor delays while syncing my own wallet.
There isn't much that I can exactly tell you since I have (had) no access to any data. Usually I analyze the connection when synchronizing.

May I ask, what the CPU is and if your laptop has a HDD or a SSD?

This is a desktop having a 2TB Seagate hdd, half Win7 half Debian, and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00 GHZ.

Have you properly set up partitions for each OS, or have you used some other way of setting up your environment?
Well another contributing factor is that your CPU is quite outdated. This will show you exactly how outdated and weak that CPU is. Unfortunately not everyone has the money to  upgrade to some generation of i5.

The Bitcoin Core completed its blockchain the other night, I thought I posted.  Seems fine now, no problems.  And now, if it ain't broke don't fix it is the order of the day.
