Hello,
Currently im only mining using a 5670 and a 6970, im getting around 500mh/s. I want to make more bitcoins using less power. Does anyone know how good FPGA miners are? Are they worth buying? And where can I get one? Thanks Smiley

The mod miner quad is pretty good, you'd have less of a waiting time than the BFL singles.

I'd wait for the Jalapeno from BFl, 163$ and 3.5g/h. I'm pretty sure they ship worldwide, don't quote me on it.

If you're looking to use less power I can facilitate an extra 2 rigs if I wanted to with the spare parts I have laying around. Make you a deal to run it alongside my rigs for 8% a month?

gthe above post is a great deal, I would be interested in that!

but if your willing to do it why not just do it yourself and get 100%...

As for the FPGA's I bought 2 from bonks and the deal was smooth, right now there are many that are selling fpga miners, look into it and figure out why they are trying to sell... Huh

Are there two versions of the Jalapeno/SC? (Im new to the community)

I see people often mentioning to using SC or Jalapeno, but, they refer to BFL lower class products as only producing ~around 800Mh/s. On their website they mention 3.5Gh/s instead of 800Mh/s.

The Butterfly Labs Single puts out ~840 mhash and the SC(super computer) series, which isn't released yet, will come in at 163$ for 3.5 Ghash, 1,299$ for 40 Ghash, and 29,899$ for 1Thash.

I'd wait for the ASIC Miners, but if you in the UK there's a company in Malvern selling these:

They are selling some cheaper development versions as b grade here:

I was thinking of purchasing a modminer quad fpga and running it with solar power. total cost will be around $2000. do you all think it is worth it to invest that much on power-efficient mining rig, or should i just take the miner and buy some equities in bitcoin mining company?

No,
if I were to spend $2000 right now, i'd rather just buy bitcoins and hope for a rising price over the next couple of years.
I currently wouldn't invest in any mining gear, or some shady mining-company.

Thanks lassdas for your reply. Do you think bitcoin will go up in a couple of years? wouldn't that hypothesis is enough to be use as a reason to start our own mining rig now and keep the running cost low. once the price of bitcoin goes up, the profit will increase as well?

If you start your own mining rig now, there is no profit for a very long time, you first need to get your investment back before there is any profit.
Within that very long time (let's say 1year, if you're lucky) you can expect the difficulty to rise (sooner or later some ASICs will arrive) and with a rising difficulty you need to wait even longer (maybe 4years, or 8, or 16) to get your investment back.
Actually, you can't even be sure to ever get your investment back, so there might never be any profit, but only loss.

As said, right now i'd rather buy some bitcoins and wait.
