I was attempting to set up a deal with gravitate (who is also in france) when I came across that info on the USPS website.  Apparently there is a law in France that says you need a gvt issued permit to reciece gold coins in the mail.  

If you have this permit, great, let me know and I can give you a combined price.  Otherwise I hate to ship out knowing there could be a customs issue.  Thanks!

I just checked, and according to french customs, there are no taxes, no VAT nor anything special for gold with value under 430€ (470$).
Over 430€, customs declaration have to be made, but there will be no taxes for investment gold.
Are considered investment gold the following:
Pure gold bars over 995 fineness
Gold coins over 990 fineness, minted after year 1800 with a few restrictions.

From USPS:
Gold coins or other articles of gold require that the addressee have a permit issued by the Bank of France (not required for gold-plated articles or for ornaments or jewelry containing only small amounts of gold and weighing 500 grams or less).

The issue may be that USPS won't deliver them to France, they say gold plated jewellery is OK, but list gold coins as needing a permit. Let me call them when they open and get an answer and I'll get back to you.

Was buying what I liked the look of, e.g old panda's etc, a couple of 100g bars but now have shifted strategy and strictly buying CGT free coins like sovs and Britannias for quick liquidation when the time comes.

Well thats a little concerning considering you run a bullion shop and are unaware of how CGT rules apply to UK legal tender coins.

Uk legal tender coins such as Britannias, sovereigns and the UK lunar series are VAT and CGT free.  With other bullion products if you exceed your annual gains limit then CGT must be paid on the profit when sold.

If you are selling bullion I also suggest you read up on the £5k / £10k limits too or otherwise your ass will end up in jail for assisting money laundering.

Yeah I personally do not deal with the legal side of the business.
