Hi all,

I am really pissed about being 2 days syncronizing the entire blockchain of the Bitcoin wallet because it is taking up to 2 days to do it and I am going nuts.
How does one sync it faster?

Thanks

The blockchain is very big. This is normal. To sync faster, get a super high speed internet connection and a very high performance CPU. If you don't like the wait, go for a SPV wallet like Electrun or MultiBit.

Vast nature of Blockchain is probably the reason behind more factors are the system’s hardware also comes into play while syncing for the first time especially the HDD.It can take upto 40 hours or more..

It can sometimes take 7 hours on faster connection or even 5 days to complete and the slower process is normal.
my suggestion: Switch to electrum Smiley

How do I know this torrent is safe?

The bootstrap import process validates the block headers from the torrent the same way that they would be validated if they were downloaded from peers on the Bitcoin client network. There are also checkpoints of older blocks hard-coded in the client that must match.

Improvements in the networking of Bitcoin Core client have removed peer connectivity issues as a bottleneck. It is less likely these days that you will be done more quickly using the torrent, since this means you are only delaying the CPU work needed. Since much of the work in syncing with the rest of the network is this processor-intensive and disk-intensive validation, having a CPU with fast cores and especially an SSD drive capable of many more IOPS will vastly increase the speed.

The torrent hasn't been recommended since 0.10.0 since it will probably be slower than a regular sync. FYI.

As others have said, downloading and syncing the whole blockchain takes quite some time, so when you want to run a full node with a complete copy of the blockchain you just have to accept it.
However, SPV wallets are a very reasonable alternative - your bitcoins are just as safe with them as with bitcoin core (your private keys stay on your computer) but you don't need the huge overhead.
See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Thin_Client_Security for some more info on technical details.

Does the wallet.dat file from the Bitcoin core 0.10.0 work with other bitcoin wallets?

Get your friend to copy their data directory onto a usb key for you Wink

Though depending on the key, the copy on/copy off could take longer.

Don't forget to delete wallet.dat you start using their data dir.

You could offer a bounty for to get entire blockchain to someone thru a link.

I'll do it for a 20 mBTC donation to my "transaction rescue charity"

Terms..
  • You make (or convince a friend to make) a 20 mBTC donation to my charity
  • You provide some post / proof there-of
  • I'll cut a torrent of the current blockdata directory
  • I'll post the mangnet hash of the torrent
  • I'll try to seed it for a week or so, depends on other factors.

Since I have to do this through my VPN, and I haven't posted torrents in a very long while, may take me a bit to get it kicked up.

Obviously you will be able to download the blockchain through Bitcoin-QT faster than the torrent since I need to do it, upload it, seed it, and you need to download it, which will all take a few days anyway.

Afraid you are still up against the "747 bandwidth argument"

The header-first synchronization allows Bitcoin Core to sync from different nodes simultaneously hence reducing the bottleneck for the internet speed. Even if you downloaded the blockchain, probably more than an hour, your CPU would still need to verify each block individually hence it would still be quite slow. Use SPV wallets if you want it to be faster.

buy an ssd, i can do it in less than an hour, already tested multiple times, you need a 850 pro to do this i think cpu also play a role, if you have it at 100% while synching...

evo should be good also
