"... to Create Armies of Half-Cloned Mice."

" Scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Shanghai Institute for Biological Sciences, led by Li Jinsong, WU Yuxuan of the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and YANG Li of CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology, have successfully mass produced viable high-quality artificial sperm for the first time.

The research, published in Cell Stem Cell with the title "CRISPR-Cas9-Mediated Genetic Screening in Mice with Haploid Embryonic Stem Cells Carrying a Guide RNA Library," builds on previous work to create viable artificial mouse sperm that can support full-term embryonic development after being injected into egg cells to create a generation of semi-cloned mice (mice with DNA from both the artificial sperm and the natural egg cells). "

"These half-cloned mice will fight on the frontline in battles against cancer and other genetic health issues."

I really don't have anything to say, I just came across this article and thought I'd post it here. Here's the link for those who would like to read the full article -

Great stuff for fighting and curing these diseases that currently have no cure. But reading these articles, I can't help but feel like it's the start of a comic book story - "With the best of intentions this Dr. produced artificial sperm. All was well until one night when the sperm turned against him...."

Scares the crap out of me thinking about the future and knowing I could be in the matrix pretty soon and have no clue.
Chinese are going to go full hog to get a advantage. Was it the last summer olympics a young swimmer from China out swam even the dudes when they overlapped her side by side on the screen.
Can not wait to see if she competes this kick at the can in Rio.
But again this is the country that created fake eggs to eat made of plastic.

Why don't they use the real stuff? I haven't read any news about a shortage. Is it to prevent any paternity claim? Do mice have lawyers?
Let me think... Artificial sperm can only lead to an artificial mouse, so why are they talking about "semi-cloned"?

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

It's a brave new world, but you already are in possession of both pills so it's really a question of which path you wish to take  Wink

They use the term 'semi-cloned' because only the sperm is man-made, the egg cells are natural.
