Post edited. I mispoke. We use cards quite a lot more than bank transfers. Just wanted to make it clear that unless you're shopping on the street, cash is not necessary. Also, since the banks will give you a debit card minutes after setting up an account, there is no real need to worry.

Yeah, cards are the method of choice for most for sure. With the vast array of loyalty programs out there it's hard not to.

Ok, so how the hell do I enter Hangul in Chrome or Firefox?  The few times I've needed to write Hangul, I just cut and paste the characters I want, so it takes my like a month to "type" out a paragraph. Back in the DOS days, I had a hangul word processor, but it was tedious to enter on a QWERTY keyboard (two keys per usually), so what's the modern method of data entry in hangul?

Ok, so it takes me forever to type in hangul, jeez. I need a hangul keyboard.  

Nothing yet has happened with BFL, still waiting on the first shipments.  The first "live" demo I did went fairly well, but waiting on some production units.  I gave them a number of suggestions to increase their hashrate and lower power consumption; they went back to the drawing board on the power distribution system and also on how they handle getwork requests.  I think they are going to be about 250 - 300% over initial power estimates (60w - 70w instead of 20w) and somewhere right around their target hashrate.  The demo unit I saw was around 800 MH/s, down about 20% from their target, but they had a LOT of inefficiencies in the debug code that could be rectified fairly easily.

My decidedly unqualified opinion is that it's going to be the best FPGA solution on the market, assuming they start shipping in the next week or two like they plan, for at least a few months if not upwards of into a half year at least.  At the very least, it will be the most polished and best looking solution at a competitive hashrate and price.

Hello Korean speakers,

I have been thinking this weekend about the best font to use for the Base58 bitcoin addresses.   They are particularly ugly things to show on a user interface, no doubt about it.

I realised that writing the Base58 symbols in a latin font is neither aesthetically pleasing nor easy to pronounce. Try pronouncing:

I have an idea that it would be possible to represent the 58 letters used in Base58 in a custom font which looks like a simplified Hangul.   I wanted to ask your advice.

Imagine you use a cutdown version of the Korean alphabet using the :
   + first 8 consonants
   + first 8 vowels (6 vowels + , say, the first 2 iotised)

This means you can represent 3 bits + 3 bits = 6 bits of codepoints in each consonant + vowel combination.
This is 2^6 = 64 codepoints so we can represent all the Base58 letters.

In Hangul, this would be using just diglyphs rather than the more usual triglyphs. They would be:

1) Inital consonant (one of the eight)
followed by
2) Medial vowel (one of the eight).

The consonant and vowel would combine in the usual Hangul way to create one symbol, which would be rendered using a custom font.

(There would be no finals)

Would this be legible to a native Korean ?
I am thinking that with the correct choice of consonants and vowels it would read like a 'Baby Korean'.

The point of all this is:

1) The Base58 would look really cool written in the simplified Hangul with diglyphs.
2) You can actually pronounce it !
3) You can have a custom font which just substitutes each of the current Base58 letters for a Hangul diglyph.

To make the representation easier to read I suggest we separate the diglyphs into groups of 4 with a space in between.  These 'words' would be then represent 4 * 6 = 24bits i.e. 3 bytes

A 34 character Base58 bitcoin address would then be written as 34 diglyphs and you would pronounce it, say:

ga nya du la   mi beo su li    gya no di lyeo
ma bi so ma    geo na deo li   mu ba seo so
na dya la ma   beo su la gi    nyeo ga

(This is probably a bit wrong - I am not sure which letters can be used as initials and which consonant-vowel combinations are valid.)

For non-Koreans they would probably just use shape recognition to see if an address was the same as on a website. As it is a only an applied font you could switch it on/off easily to show the latin characters. Just have a button to click to switch between the two.

If non-Koreans wanted to learn how to pronounce it, they would have to learn 8 consonants and 8 vowels - less than learning the Nato phonetic alphabet.

What do native Korean speakers think about this idea ?
