Well, those machines may have the weapons, but are still lacking the most important part: the strong (hostile) artificial intelligence behind their actions. At any rate, I see no reason to believe an AI would necessarily move to exterminate humanity, or even if it did, that it would really need weapons such as those, and not just, say, the internet and human gullibility.

It's coming folks, a few more years and skynet will be activated.... We are seriously screwed, do you realize folks how big danger humanity is in right now with this evil technology research going on...

[...] Unfortunately, there is a huge difference between machine learning (much of what you described), and the actual reasoning abilities a strong artificial intelligence will need. That isn't to say it won't happen eventually (and given the resources they have, perhaps through the military first), but that's probably still some ways further down the road - and again, I see no reason to believe such an AI would necessarily be hostile.

Look here DARPA's latest ATLAS robot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkBnFPBV3f0They are going to build a fucking T-1000 just like in the movies. And they are not stopping, this technology is very dangerous, worse even than bioengineering, because while viruses are dumb, these AI's can really destroy humanity.

May I first ask what did you study? You're obviously not realizing how hard it is going to be to make an AI pass the Turing test, not to mention for it to go insane and start killing. Stop being paranoid and relax. So far (aside from partially Watson) there has been no robot with an AI. They have just been coded with the desired instructions and can not act on their own. They can only make mistakes due to improper coding/bugs/glitches.

But they are working on it right now? Dont you realize the danger? By even just researching this dangerous field, they bring humanity closer and closer to destruction. Why do then need a conscious AI at all? Idiot scientists, egomaniacs, just want to prove to the world their "skills", yet ,yet if their invention turns back agains them, what shall we do? Almost all scientists are narcissistic egomaniacs , obsessed with their skills and work, even if that work one day can destroy humanity, they just dont care and are narrowminded, they only look for present results and not care about the future.

You're wrong. If I was working in such a field I would try to research it as well. Everything usually comes with pros and cons. There are currently more imminent dangers that humanity could be facing. Read this paper. I guess Hollywood should be blamed, since majority think that the AI would instantly go rogue and start killing. Movies tend to be used to manipulate the masses as well. There are also benefits that AI bring and one should look into that as well.

It's only a matter of time before criminals/terrorists start arming drones and using them to commit crimes etc. People are also going to start flying them into aeroplanes and stuff which is a scary thought and a few have already had near-misses. Well, those machines may have the weapons, but are still lacking the most important part: the strong (hostile) artificial intelligence behind their actions.
Why would they need a robot behind them when people can just control them manually.

You haven't listened to Sarah Connor? "Nobody is ever safe." If you don't die of old age, you will die anyway... - in a car accident; - in the hospital (medical execution); - neighborhood shooting; - heart attack; - sky diving; - plane crash; - ISIS; - Jade Helm 15; - etc., etc., etc. Could happen to you this afternoon. Nobody ever knows for sure. Thanks to the OP who reminds us of our impending doom so that we can prepare (put everything into trust), even if he isn't practical about it.

We are the ultimate force of destruction on this planet and are teaching machines to do the same. When A.I. is capable of destroying us, we will have no-one to blame but ourselves. The bright side is that once we are destroyed, the machines will be free to live in harmony with the remaining lifeforms on this planet and eventually other planets and alien lifeforms as well.

Blame ourselves? Fuck I blame those idiot scientists/opportunists or megalomaniacs that fund these or work for it. You talk as if I or you were responsible for this. I`m not funding trillions of dollars into these secret projects or military or whatever, its those control-freak powerhungry elite that does it. So its not the average folks that are to blame but the elite.

Google is SKYNET, boston dynamics is owned by google.
Or shall we say, Google is only "Cyberdyne systems" from T1, while DARPA the military version is SKYNET (just like in T2)
Ah man, holywood is like a crystal glass ball.
