Hi, i'm a Java programmer and i found out of namecoin just yesterday.
I think a distributed dns system like this would be amazing, but still the client has no gui, being therefore difficult to operate.

I'm thinking of making a Java GUI for it, and sell it for a symbolic price of like, maybe, 0.1 BTC/copy.
What do you think of this?

Personally I wouldn't buy. Learning namecoind is not hard at all and someone will probably make an open source gui in the future.

There is another problem : namecoin is a generic tool to register names, not only domain names.
So, if you want a gui to simplify things, you still need to stay generic, or do you intend to code an external program that send RPC commands to namecoin ?

ps : a gui is planned for the namecoin software.

I intended to make a software to send rpc requests to namecoin, yes.
But learning that a gui is already planned, i'll probably leave it...

In fact, this on vince's TODO list, which is already full (and mine too...). So, if it is not too much work for you, why not ? (Interface for sending and receiving money in namecoin should be the same as bitcoin's one, so avoid redoing this part i guess)

What do you think of this?

This place isn't keen on asking for money in return for software coding.

Usually somebody starts a bounty if there is enough demand... try doing that first.

It would be a great addition however and I would definitely donate some btc/namecoins to the cause.

I wasn't asking money, i was going to see if this interested someone Wink

@mother of another:
No, this is gonna be a whole new GUI, made in java so that it's cross-platform Wink

So ok, i'm gonna do this.

+1 Smiley

Looking very nice, so far Smiley  Got an ETA ?

Will be worth a donation, just for helping to speed things up. Yeah, I know, not much time saved, but every second saved, is a second I can spend on other activities.

I posted a link to this thread on the Namecoin forum : http://dot-bit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=62

Has there been anymore progress on this? I would be one of the first ones to grab this when it's released. It is really looking good! Now will there be a way to tie this in with the gui_miner or will this be like the original bitcoin client and does coin generation through the CPU?
