Fantastic story OP! You realize that you are now a celebrity? Also, you have done for solo mining what no one else has done before - Giving hope! I am still looking at getting my first miner, the reason this decision was delayed this long was only because i insist on solo mining if i get a miner, which was not acceptable to the wife... explaining to her that potential earnings are either 100% or zilch and electricity cost going out of my pocket while this happened, was like trying to get pigs to fly. However, your story here has helped me convince the wife, especially because she saw that you put your tithes and we are very happy for you my friend! Here's to hope that i get my S3 soon! Smiley

Hey everyone! Some of you have heard of Nicehash, a hash renting place that lets you rent mining power and point it wherever you want. You probably know I'm also very much against rented hash because of the opportunity for milking your money while not paying anything.

At any rate, Nicehash had a bug in their code and instead of giving the guy a partial payout and bug-finding fee they shafted him and just sent him his 3btc hashing fee back.  Angry

As a help to him the Sparky Experiment will be mining for "Fredi" from today until next Sunday, November 11th, at midnight. If a block hits for Sparky by then we'll be sending 15.5 BTC to Fredi with well wishes and goodwill.

To see the thread, click on Fredi above. Sparky was restarted right after posting this thread. Best hash right now is 47,028  Grin

Good luck fellow experimenters!

I know I'm behind on responses guys. I'm sorry! My time has been eaten up lately like a fat man at a barbecue.

I've put together a "solo pool" server packaged up on a VMware machine for home use. Basically you turn it on and point your miners at it and it'll handle all the pool-side stuff so you don't have to mess with changing your miner's soft/firmware.

Here's a link. You need about 100GB of free space (for the blockchain).

With bitcoin price through the roof (and temps cool enough I actually had to turn my heater on tonight) I've turned my S3 back on as a solo mining dream.  Here's to hoping I can duplicate the success of this thread!  Cool

Mine is oc'd just a little to run about 500GH/s.  It has pulled over 1G shares before, so all I have to do is cross my fingers and hope for 60x past results, lol.

It wasn't so long ago that an S3 and an S5 would have been a powerhouse of hash. I think you have a great chance!

First, Who cares? Mining on a pool so you can collect 0.000000001 btc vs collecting 25 BTC mining solo. Hmm.
Second, I'd guess you could make about $0.02 USD per day at a pool.

Wow, that's an amazing best share Marty! Lot of hashpower too. Keep on truckin and you'll get it!

Hi Folks,

I stopped my nearly brandnew S3+ miners at BTC passing 400US$ (S1 -> S3 selfmade Upgrade),
though I have 2 pay high energy fees.

With the winter comming in, it got reactivated,
and the better one (~478GHs) is participating in this S3 Solo game (the other @nicehash).

... after 16 days, I got a respectable best share,

{"hashrate1m": "338G", "hashrate5m": "434G", "hashrate1hr": "447G", "hashrate1d": "460G", "hashrate7d": "433G", "lastupdate": 1449149542, "workers": 1, "shares": 178751257, "bestshare": 749187554.6695118, "bestever": 749187554}

but no goal yet.

... I will keep it running for about 120 days.

Cheesy PanneKopp

P.S. I do not believe, it us useful to permanently reboot the miner - strong wishes do not provide good luck ^^

... please make an educated guess !

Welcome to the party, PanneKopp! Very respectable bestshare so far right there. The reboot has to do with the slowing of hashrate occasionally or changing of settings. But (and this is probably just mental) if my little Sparky doesn't pull decent shares after a week he's getting a reboot to make me feel better.  Grin

Update: Sparky's best share right now is 674,868,887. Not too shabby considering one of his chips is wonky and X's out after about 10 minutes.

Try powering it off for 5 minutes and then firing it up again.  Sometimes I get an X and this always has cleared it up.

Yeah, that works for a little bit. But it always comes back within 20 minutes. I've learned to live with it. Sometimes it's a -, sometimes an X. I just gave up on that little sucker. If the reboots from cold state and new high dollar thermal paste won't keep that one going it's just a bad chip.
